The start of a new semester means that you'll have to start studying again. Everyone studies differently and if you want to try some new techniques to improve your studying this year, try these tips! You'll make the dean's list in no time!
1. Lose the habit of procrastinating
Procrastination is like masturbation. In the end, you only screw yourself.
2. Form a study group
Someone is bound to know the answer to question 5 on the study guide.
3. Go to office hours
Seriously though, that's what they're there for and your professor will appreciate the effort.
4. Make studying interesting, turn your flash cards into a game
Survey says...
5. Turn your notes into a song
You probably won't sound like 90's Mariah Carey, but at least you'll remember your notes.
6. Stop highlighting the whole book!!!
Don't turn your textbook into a coloring book by highlighting every word. Make your life easy by highlighting the main idea and underline the supporting details.
9. Use red pen to take notes in class
The color red automatically catches our attention as something important. You're more likely to pay attention to your notes if they are in red ink.
8. Chew gum while you study
Chewing gum not only helps you concentrate, but if you chew the same flavor of gum during your test, it could trigger your memory and help you remember what you studied.
9. Spray perfume/cologne on yourself while studying
Just like chewing gum, spraying the same perfume/cologne you used to study on yourself before taking your test can help trigger your memory.
10. Record your professors lectures
This helps you, incase you fall asleep in class, or you didn't hear part of the lecture while it was going on.
11. Take breaks in between study sessions
It's better to come back to something in a couple of minutes instead of blankly staring at your notes for an hour.
12. Use Quizlet or other websites to quiz yourself
Everything is online these days, use your resources.
13. Learn how to skim through your assigned chapters
Seriously, no one reads the whole chapter anymore, just find the main points of the section and you'll be fine.
14. Go to a quiet place
Do you honestly think that you can study with your TV volume all the way up and a bunch of people talking to you?
15. Reread and rewrite your notes
Repetition helps you remember things. Reread and rewrite your notes until you can't forget them.
16. Get enough sleep!
How do you expect to focus on your test when you're yawning and falling asleep every two seconds? Do yourself a favor and get plenty of rest the night before your exam.
