OK seriously? Why are y'all not laughing at my jokes?

16 Times The College Tour Guide Struggle Is Real

Being a tour guide for my college has been one of the greatest things I could have done in college. I love getting to meet all the prospective students and share my love for my school with them. While it is very rewarding, here are 16 times when the college tour guide struggle is way to real.

1. Walking backwards like it is your day job.

We all know it all too well. "Please let me know if I am about to hit a human, guys!"

2. When your friends see you while you're giving a tour.

They are probably about to embarrass you.

3. When the prospective students ask you where all the good parties happen.

OK, let's change the subject now.

4. When no one on the tour laughs at your hilarious jokes.

Oh sorry I tried, y'all.

5. Remembering you have Open House the day after an insane party.

I can't. Not today.

6. When the high schooler mistakes your upbeat personality for flirting.

You are a child, sweetheart.

7. When the weather is anything other then sunny and 75.

Thank you for that, wind.

8. That epic story you start to tell but remember it is inappropriate so you have to stop yourself.

Better not.

9. When you totally blank out and just have to make something up off the top of your head.

And then we hope the tour groups don't catch us in it.

10. Or when a family is asking questions no one can answer.

Let's see if we can redirect that to someone else.

11. Or the group with ALL the questions.

12. The Alumni in the group that starts trying to give the tour.

This is not the 1980's. Things have changed, sir.

13. When your friends walk up asking about your crazy plans for the weekend.

You stop that right now.

14. The moment of satisfaction when everyone keeps waving to you while you're giving a tour.

There is a difference between speaking and being obnoxious.

15. Forming a bond with students just within the one hour you spend showing them around.

These end up being the best tours.

16. Having to make yourself look more presentable on the days you have a tour.

Being a tour guide for my college is such a rewarding time. Despite all the awkward situations it can bring, it is all worth it when you see all that you do for the place that you love the most.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
