16 Things College Students Don't Want To Hear

These common questions and comments drive us crazy.

1. How were finals?

Honestly, they were awful. How else should I respond to that?

2. Did you get any grades back yet?

No. Professors don't want to grade our exams as much as we don't want to take them, hence why my grades won't be up for a long time.

3. Are you going to unpack anytime soon?

Probably not. I don't want to unpack just to have to repack in a month. That's just unnecessary.

4. Why were you out so late?

5. Why can't you stay home for one night?

I'm used to being surrounded by people my age on basically a 24-hour basis. Why should I stay home to watch you go to bed at 9 p.m.?

6. Why do you sleep so late?

Because I turned nocturnal. No, really. Between schoolwork during the week and going out on the weekends, I am really only awake during the night.

7. Watch your language.

8. What do you want for dinner?

Anything. I just ate dining hall food for over three months. I considered it a good day when there wasn't a bug or piece of hair in my meal. If you make me a piece of toast for dinner, I probably won't even be mad.

9. You have to go to Aunt Sally's house on Sunday.

Listen, I'm not really used to this whole "being told what to do" thing, so I won't take it well. If you give me the option of going, maybe I will go. If you tell me I'm going, I most definitely won't.

10. You're not 21.

That's weird, because at school I am. I'm in college. I drink. #HonestyHour

11. My house, my rules.

I'm not here to disrespect you, but your rules are the same rules you had since I was a freshman in high school. I know how to make good decisions (at least, most of the time), so let's put some faith in me!

12. Get off the couch.

I just worked my ass off for 18 weeks straight. No, thank you.

13. Did you just nap for five hours?

Yes, because I slept for two hours last night.

14. Where'd you go? Who'd you go with? What time did you get home? Who was there?

Well, if you don't feel the need to ask me these questions while I'm at school (which is a good thing), then why do you have to ask them now?

15. Why don't you get a job?

I understand that you're tired of hearing me say "I'm broke," but what free time do you think I have at school?

16. When do you go back to school?

I know I'm annoying, but please don't get rid of me that fast. I love being home and spending time with all of the people I love, so thinking about going back to school sucks.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
