16 Hopes I Have For 2016

A fresh start is heading your way! The new year brings the arrival of new dreams, resolutions and goals. For 2016, I hope...

1. To be happy.

I mean truly happy. I hope to wake up every day with a smile. I hope to be happy for myself and for nobody else.

2. To be healthy.

Physically, mentally and emotionally. If I am not, I hope to have the strength and bravery to ask for help when I need it.

3. To be an overall better person.

I know that I am human and I make mistakes. I hope to minimize my mistakes and work harder to give more of myself to the people I care about.

4. To live every day with purpose.

I woke up for a reason. I have a purpose. God has a plan for me. I hope to live every day according to the knowledge that I matter more than I even know.

5. To fall in love with life and everything it brings.

I want to fall more in love with my jobs, my friendships, family and every moment in between. No matter how good or bad.

6. To travel as much as possible.

I hope to enjoy every drive home, every road trip with friends and family and to overcome any traveling fears. I want to get out of my comfort zone this year and make every journey a trip to remember.

7. To stop looking forward to the future, and instead, live in the moment.

I want to truly live in the moment. Pictures are everything to me, but I want to learn to appreciate the moment more this year.

8. To learn as much as possible.

Getting a good grade is easy. Putting yourself out there is the challenging part. This year I want to learn more about my major, about life, and about something new.

9. To stop letting others keep me from doing what I want.

I want to stop worrying about what others think. This often stops me from doing what I truly want. I will rise above this and become who I truly am.

10. To give more of my time to others.

I want to volunteer more of my free time to those less fortunate than I.

11. To experience new things.

I want to try new foods, live new adventures and have more of an open mind this year. Life is all about experiences.

12. To learn to disconnect from technology to better connect with others.

I want to learn to put my phone down more often and spend more quality time with people I love.

13. To find a new interest or learn a new hobby.

I want to make my free time more productive by picking up a new hobby or craft.

14. To find joy in the little things.

I want to find joy in the smiles of babies and the breeze on a cool spring day. These are the little things we take for granted so often. I want to appreciate them more this year.

15. To finally learn to listen to my mom.

She's always right. Listening to her would've saved me from a lot of pain and heartache this year. Next year I'll be 21 and hopefully, I'll figure it out after 21 years that mother is always right.

16. To have the greatest year ever and to cherish every high and every low.

No matter what this year brings, I am looking forward to having an amazing year.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
