Let's face it: New Year's resolutions are hard. Very few people have that discipline of steel so many of us wish we had. But if you're in college, your resolution might be a little easier than the typical one. When you're in college, time is crucial and how you spend it could determine how the rest of your week could play out. Maybe your resolution is to read more, to work out a couple times a week or to eat a healthy meal once a week. But if sticking to resolutions aren't really your thing, there are definitely a few that college kids can definitely stick to.
1. Limit yourself to one Ramen noodle pack a week
People are always mocking college students for living on Ramen in college. Well, when you're living on a budget and noodles are 37 cents for one packet, of course, we're going to stock up on the cheap luxury. But it's time to break out of shells and try something else, like those microwave macaroni bowls. New year, new noodles.
2. Order pizza at least once a week.
3. Attempt to make it to the grocery store at least every two weeks so you don't have to live on stale crackers.
4. Smile at a service dog weekly.
Whenever see a dog on campus, smile at it. Smiling releases chemicals in our brains that make us happy. So it's a win-win situation. You get to see a dog and feel happy about it. Isn't that awesome?
5. Get your daily exercise by walking to your fridge.
6. Commit to a new Netflix show every week.
The internet is an amazing place especially if you're blessed with a Netflix account. But odds are you've already watched Gossip Girl three times, so it's time to start something new! Becoming addicted to a new show is a great way to pass the time each week
7. Try and go to most of your classes.
Finding motivation to attend all of your classes can be a struggle especially the early ones during the cold winter months. But this year will be different! Try to at least to go to your nine a.m. classes this semester and if you can't, no one will blame you. On a cold day, sometimes it's better to just stay in bed.
8. Replace doing homework with taking a nap every other day.
9. Procrastinate on your homework by creeping on Twitter for at least two hours.
10. Beg your parents for some extra cash every other week.
11. Reminisce about how easy high school was on the daily.
Remember how easy high school was? Remember complaining about that one class where you only watched movies? Remember when teachers gave you all the test information in an easy to follow PowerPoint? Remember when you actually had a scheduled lunch every day? Remember not having to walk everywhere in the snow and freezing rain? Remember when teachers actually cared if you passed? Those were the days.
12. Have a break down at least once a month.
This one is so easy we could probably do it daily, but let's challenge ourselves! College is a stressful place that brings out the tears and the worst in people. But this year we will be strong and only freak out once a month (hopefully, no promises).
13. Cry about how much you have to do every other hour.
14. Get a solid five hours of sleep every night.
15. Have nightmares about everything you have to do every night.
Have you ever woken up from a dead sleep sweating and breathing hard? Your pulse is racing and so are your thoughts? You probably had a subconscious nightmare about missing an exam or an important day of lecture. Or maybe you thought you missed an important assignment or homework that was worth your entire final grade? Odds are you're having these crazy dreams every night, so why not make it your New Year's resolution? But don't worry, it was just a nightmare. Well, hopefully.
College is hard enough without a challenging New Year's resolution. So this year, keep things simple and doable by picking a resolution you know you can keep and might even do daily. Even when the going gets tough, keep eating that Ramen or having a breakdown every other night. In college, it's always possible.
