Old Love Trapped in a Young Body

15 Ways That Prove You're An Old Soul

There are some people who feel like they don't quite fit in with the world around them. There are some people who constantly seek wisdom, love, and thought. If Billie Holiday appeals to you more than Taylor Swift, and if you just questioned or even cringed at the name Taylor Swift, then you might be one of these people. For those of us who have love for the old times, ways, and music, here's 15 ways to know that you are indeed, an old soul.

1. Vinyl Over Everything

Fuzzy sounds, warm melodies, the fine pointed needle. Picking your favorite record to go with your favorite track, there's nothing better. The sound of a vinyl is the sound of home. Not to mention the record stores, walking into that vinyl smell and scanning each row for a new (old) favorite.

2. "You Look Like My Grandma"

If one of your friends, or family, tell you you look like their grandparents...you take no shame! Looking like we're at least 50 is the idea. Say, I look like your 85 year old grandma who was born before any of us heard the phrase "Slay girl! You on fire! Sleek!"? Thank you, thank you very much.

3. Trends Confuse You

What's a dab, and why do we keep calling all of these people fam? YOLO's and "lit" don't truly fit our vocabulary. We'd much rather read a book and call each other darling while sipping our coffees.

4. You Value Deep Conversations

If you're an old soul, than you are constantly thinking about ideas, perspective, and why we do what humans do. You love to talk about books and space and the world around you.

5. You Aren't Materialistic

Diamond rings or a necklace made of twine? I would much rather be swallowed in a dozen daisies than garnished with pearls. And we value the presence of a person much more than the presents they give us.

6. You Dream About Living in 1920

Or 1940, 1950, 1960, 1810! Whenever it is, you just wish it wasn't today. You feel out of place, like you were born one thousand years late. So we dream about the old life, and listen to stories from our grandparents and their childhoods. Speaking of...

7. You Prefer Older Company Than Younger

The best part about the holidays? Talking to great-grandma and grandpa. You can't wait to sit down with them and ask them questions, or just talk about ideas and thoughts. No one tells better stories, or gives better advice, than them. And we really never minded the smell of mothballs.

8. Thrift Stores Are Your Home

That's if your home doesn't already look like one! What's more appealing to us than a building full of things way older than yourself? That's right, nothing! The smell, the sights, the people, the discoveries, thrift stores are where you belong. And you know you'll come home with another bagful of knick-knacks with no more space to display them.

9. You're Kind Of A Weird-O

As implied, you're a bit eccentric, and proud. You're a little strange with ideas, and some of the things you say are followed by a smirk or chuckle from your friends out of the ridiculousness, but they love you all the same. Plus, we cant help how much we wish we were 70.

10. What's A Party?

I'm not sure about you, but my bedtime is a hardy 10 o'clock. I spend my Saturday nights snuggled up with a book or movie, and spend my weekends creating weekly to-do lists, practicing, working, or with my family and close friends.

11. The Best Music Was Created Long Before You Were Born

From Johann Bach and Frederic Chopin, to Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles. Led Zeppelin and The Mama's and The Papa's, to Louis Armstrong and Glenn Miller. This is real music to you, with real artists, real instruments, and heartfelt lyrics and passion. And of course, available and originally made on vinyl.

12. Working Technology Freaks You Out

Cell phones and touchscreens seem like a basic necessity in today's world. Although, we'd much rather prefer a good old land line or flip phone. We believe that too many people spend too much time looking at a screen and not at each other.

13. You Feel Older And Wiser Than Your True Age

The things people your own age struggle with, you've already figured out. Your fiends come to you for advice that you're surprised you don't have trouble with yourself. You understand acceptance and the value of every situation in you're life. And death doesn't scare you because you know it's a part of life. You're an old soul, and you feel like it too.

14. You're In Love With The Look Of Vintage

The look of something older than yourself, brings a feeling of warmth and home to your heart. Buildings, phones, typewriters, pictures, cameras, if it looks like it could fall apart in our hands, then we know how precious and important it is.

15. You Believe In True Love

And you've seen it too. We may be practical and wise, but as The Drifters once sang, "Why Do Fools Fall In Love", we sure are fools too. Above all, we know that life is love, and without love, you may be living, but you are not living life.

If you're an old soul, then you know the love you hold for old objects, traditions, and others. We may be introverted, but that doesn't mean we don't like to go out and have a wonderful time with our friends and family. We're thinkers, artist, philosophers, movie directors, and inventors. An old soul, is a beautiful soul.

"There is a beautiful thing inside you that is thousands of years old. Too old to be captured in poems. Too old to be loved by everyone. But loved so very deeply, by a chosen few." -Nikita Gill

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
