If you are like me, you have a serious case of FOMO when it comes to Coachella. I stalk Vanessa Hudgens' Instagram account to look at her festival outfits and hope that some day I could rock them. It has been my dream to frolic in the Coachella Valley with freshly picked flowers in my hair and bare feet. I would do anything to catch a glimpse of Lana Del Rey or Zella Day. In reality, not only is it expensive to fly out to Indio, California but to actually get tickets to the whole festival would be nearly impossible. Although the music festival is once a year, the free spirited vibes of Coachella can be felt year round in the comfort of your home. Here are some ways to have what I would like to call a "Couchella":
1. Livestream every performance at Coachella!
By going onto the official Coachella website you can watch every performance live from your couch.
2. Follow the Official Coachella Account on Spotify.
Each year Coachella issues out an official lineup playlist on Spotify. So not only can you listen to this year's playlist, you can listen to what 2013's Coachella sounded like.
3. Make your own flower crown.
Why spend $15 at Urban Outfitters when you can make your own personalized flower crown? With floral wiring, floral tape, fake flowers you can have a flower crown in 15 minutes. Here is a Pinterest tutorial that I used to make my own.
4. Get outside
Get outside and listen to your jams. Go for a hike or just sunbathe on your front lawn to get the outdoor effect of the music festival.
5. Live in a tent
Maybe it's not the most ideal way to celebrate "Couchella," but it could be cool to have a tent to chill in inside your apartment.
6. Recycle
A big part of Coachella is respecting the environment. Many recycling incentives have been established at the festival. If you bring 100 water bottles to recycle at the festival you get a free concert shirt. Promote recycling as much as possible to your peers and lighten your carbon footprint.
7. Paint your body
Your body is a canvas. Have your friend use face paint to make your body into an artistic masterpiece.
8. Wear festival outfits everywhere
Wal-mart could use more weirdly dressed people in its store.
9. Limit your showers
Save water and skip a few of your showers this week. You can even dread your hair to get the full festival look.
10. Crowd-surf in all public places
The lacrosse game. Spanish class. The Cafeteria. Do it everywhere.
11. Speak festival language to strangers as much as possible![]()
"I can feel your aura."
" You are my spirit animal."
"I can vibe to this."
"You give off great energy."
"Do your have their vinyl?"
12. Start a dance party everywhere on campus
Put your headphones in and play some Skrillex and start dancing. People will follow you and within five minutes there will be a huge dance party.
13. Have someone put you on their shoulders and walk you to your class
14. Use the nonverbal Coachella language as often as possible
"The Taylor Swift Head bang": Use this as a replacement of saying "YASS!"
"The Hard Rocker Head Bang": This can be used on Monday or when you are not feeling yourself. This mop-like head movement may also come in handy when you need to do some cleaning.
"The Air Guitar": This can be used spontaneously throughout your week.
"The Sound Board Master": This can be used during class or in the library. Put your headphones in and pretend you are mixing the most excellent beats for your raging crowd.
"The EDM Power Pose": This can be used when you answer a question right in class and demand an applause.
"The Frolick": This can be done anywhere but preferably a nice meadow.
"The Peace Sign": This is either used as saying bye or "deuces", or it is a symbol of peace. Usually one that uses the peace sign is a free spirit.
15. To end the "Couchella" activities, bring your couch outside and take a rest after all of these activities
You may learn to appreciate your couch a little bit more.
