I am constantly stumped when I log onto Netflix, trying to find the perfect show. I never really know what to watch and I know so many other people with the same issues. Here is my Netflix watch list from movies to TV shows to anime.
1. "Breaking Bad."
I know many of us have heard of "Breaking Bad." It is about a chemistry teacher, Walter White, who gets cancer and becomes a meth cook in order to save his family from debt. The first season is hard to get through, but past that -- it is truly a good show. Main character, Walter, develops from a push over to a hard-ass that you do not want to mess with. This series would be best for those interested in drama and action; the series can get your heart pumping.
2. "Dexter."
"Dexter" is just as popular as "Breaking Bad" and is also a must-watch series. It revolves around a man named Dexter Morgan, who works as a blood-splatter analyst in Miami Metro. He also happens to also be a serial killer. The series can be intense and I do not suggest this for people who get queasy at the sight of blood; it is filled with drama, romance, action, among other things. The interesting thing about the show is that is from the perspective of the killer, which causes the viewer to have sympathy for the killer and not the killer’s victims for a change.
3. "Weeds."
"Weeds" is definitely one of my favorites and not because of the title. "Weeds" is about a woman who "lost her husband and due to financial difficulty starts to sell marijuana." When watching this show make sure to have headphones if in a public place because sex scenes will come out of nowhere. The show like my other favorites has drama to romance and can be an adventure to watch.
4. "Django Unchained."
Django is an amazing movie about a man named Django, who was a slave until a man decided to save him in exchange for his help to find other men. The movie is filled with action and can be very bloody at times, definitely not for kids. The movie is just perfect.
5. "Fruitvale Station."
"Fruitvale Station" is definitely a tearjerker; the movie is an adaptation of a real life story that took place a few years ago in Oakland, Calif. A man named Oscar Grant was killed by an officer who mistook his gun for his taser, so he says. It is a very emotion-packed movie and gives a good look into the Black Lives Matter movement.
6. "Jamesy Boy."
"Jamesy Boy" is a movie about a boy named James, who has trouble with the law and loses motivation to go to school. He ends up dealing drugs and ending up in jail where he turns his life around. A very inspirational movie full of action.
7. "Rosario + Vampire."
This anime is full of purely romance and science fiction. I enjoyed it maybe you will too.
8. "Parks and Recreation."
"Parks and Recreation" is a great humor-filled show, styled similarly to "The Office." It follows the main character, Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler. She attempts to make a park in a large ditch outside of her friends home. It is full of great laughs and is a perfect example of a strong female lead. I would recommend it strongly to all of my feminist friends out there.
9. "Rent."
"Rent" is actually a Broadway play adapted into a movie musical. It is full of beautiful people exposing us to the issues faced by the LGBT* community, people with HIV/AIDS and those who are poverty stricken. It is full of romance and drama and beautiful music performances.
10. "That '70s Show."
This series follows a group of teens on their adventures through the '70s. The show is hysterical and full of great, relatable moments. Sadly, I hated how the show ended, but the series is worth it.
11. "Soul Eater."
"Soul Eater" is an anime about a group of students who work to keep the world safe from evil. The series is action packed, with some romance. A great casual watch.
12. "Criminal Minds."
"Criminal Minds" is a great show to watch alongside "Dexter" because they are complete opposites. "Criminal Minds" helps one to understand why killers do what they do by following a group of FBI behavioral analysts. The series is filled with drama and action.
13. "Orange is the New Black."
Does this show even need a description?
14. "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas."
This movie will always be close to my heart. The movie uses the innocence of children to show the damage that Hitler’s genocide had on the community of Jewish people. The movie is emotional so be sure to have tissues.
15. "Home."
This is one of the cutest kids movie that I have seen besides "Inside Out." It follows a little alien and a young girl on a mission to stop an email that the alien sent and to find the little girl’s mother. The details in the animation is phenomenal and features the voice of Rihanna. It is a great movie to watch with younger family members and friends.
