After four months of summer sun and fun, it is difficult to readjust and go back to school. This is particularly hard for college students because it requires packing, moving, and buying stuff for the new year. It also involves catching up with people you haven't seen in months and possibly meeting a new roommate. It means more classes that will determine the path of your career and more pep rallies that try and induce school spirit. So here are some thoughts everyone has about going back to school.
1. Is everything going to fit in my car?
Especially for those of us from out of state, we basically bring all the contents of home with us. The question is, can we actually pull of transporting all of it. Or worse, will it all fit in the dorm room, at least without upsetting the roommate?
2. Did I forget to pack that one thing?
This actually happens regardless of where we are going, even if it's just for vacation. We are bound to forget something. Let's just hope it's not super important, like all your clean underwear. That would be pretty bad.
3. Do I really need this textbook for that class?
Ah, the age old question of whether or not to purchase that multi-hundred dollar textbook. Will you really need it for that one class? Yes, yes you will. So suck it up. Maybe you can sell it back later.
4. Maybe I should try and get a job off campus.
Maybe you'd get paid better. But gas money...Plus, your boss may not understand that you have a final at some random hour of the day.
5. I have to remember the monthly payments on my private loan.
Eww, adulting, bills. Yuck! It's all part of the deal, isn't it? We all gotta grow up sometime and it kinda sucks sometimes.
6. I wonder if that *insert cute guy's name here* is still single.
Most likely not, some summer cutie probably snatched him up. Or maybe he is but doesn't even know you exist. Maybe it's time to put yourself out there a bit and go for what you want.
7. Oh My Goodness!!! They got engaged over the summer!
It happens. A lot. People get engaged and married and start having kids in college. It's all part of that growing up deal, right? Still, it's exciting to think you might get an invite.
8. If I leave my stuff in the communal, will it get stolen?
Showers, kitchen, etc. There's a looming danger of someone eating my Ben and Jerry's straight from the freezer. If I ever catch them, all hell will break loose.
9. Why did I sign up for an 8 AM class?!
Don't do it. Just don't. Unless you absolutely have to for your major don't even try it. You will regret it.
10. Maybe I should try *insert club, extracurricular, or intramural sport here* this year.
Should I be more social this year instead of hiding in my dorm room watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix? Probably. Will I actually? Probably not.
11. I wonder if I will actually see my advisor this year.
Some have that advisor that is never in their office or never answers emails. God forbid you have both.
12. Need to make all the playlists on Spotify.
Getting ready in the morning. Homework. Naptime. Workout. Stressed out. Driving around at 2 AM. All the playlists. Should probably invest in Premium while you're at it. Oh wait, more bills. Dang it!
13. I should probably Skype my parents once in a while.
So maybe you only Skype your parents like once a semester last year and when you came home for holidays/the summer they practically mobbed you at the airport. Probably should let them in a bit more on the happenings of your college life.
14. I will spend more time on my homework and less on Netflix.
Lies. Lies. And more lies. Moving on.
15. Please be a good year.
Most of all, all of us just want to have a good year, maybe even a great one. But this is up to you to actually do. Your life, your choices.
Good luck!
