This year marks the tenth anniversary that "Cheaper by the Dozen 2," the sequel to the 2003 remake of the film, had its premiere. While the first film was released two years earlier, you may remember the sequel better, but in order to refresh your memory, let's briefly take a look at what happened in the film. As in the first film, the focus is on the Baker family headed by Tom (Steve Martin) and Kate (Bonnie Hunt), but this time, it is set during the summer as they find themselves competing in a set of games with a family of eight, headed by a friend of Tom's played by Eugene Levy. Like the first film, this sequel is full of laughs and is one that will never get old, even now, a decade following its release. Of course many other things happened in 2005 in the world of popular culture, so let's rewind for a moment and take a look back at some of the things from that special year that we will never forget.
1. Chris Rock hosted the Academy Awards for the first time.
This year will mark his second time hosting the awards show.2. Lucas laid it out on the line for Brooke in Season 3 of "One Tree Hill."
3. "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" premiered.
4. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling professed their love for each other quite visibly at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards.
The original #couplegoals, am I right?
5. Team Jolie vs. Team Aniston
Sadly, this was actually a thing…
6. Brangelina would make their first appearance on screen as a married couple in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
7. Destiny's Child took a hiatus then officially broke up.
*Cue sad face emoji*
8. And Blink-182 did as well.
RIP.
9. The first season of "Desperate Housewives" came to an end.
10. While HBO concluded its five-season series "Six Feet Under" with an emotional finale.
11. Tom Cruise publicly declared his love for Katie Holmes on Oprah.
By jumping on an unsuspecting yellow couch...ouch!
12. Christian Bale takes the role of Batman on in “Batman Begins."
Will Ben Affleck be able to fill the shoes that Bale has left? Let's see on March 25.
13. The song “We Belong Together” by Mariah Carey appeared two consecutive times on the Billboard charts in June and August 2005.
14. On the topic of music, 17-year-old Rihanna came out with a smash with the release of her single “Pon De Replay.”
15. The sixth series in the Harry Potter books, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," was published.
2005 was a fun year in many ways (as you've just been reminded), and as ever, the fun is reflected in the popular culture of the day, and nothing about culture is as all-American as the movies.
