If you are anything like me, a messy eater, then I'm sure we share some common thoughts on what happens when you finally embrace the fact that you are a messy eater. Sure, it can be frustrating (like when you are on a dinner date), but most of the time it can be quite humorous. In all reality, once you embrace your "messy eater-ness" it just goes a lot better. Here are twenty things I know to be true because of the fact I'm a messy eater. Feel free to share some of your thoughts in the comments.
1. When you go out, you will need A LOT of napkins.
2. The wait staff at restaurants just assume you made a mess, and are not in fact a messy eater (which we all know, we are just messy eaters).
3. You can connect with toddlers in a whole new way.
4. You definitely can NEVER wear white when you eat, or anything nice for that matter.
5. You sometimes wish it was socially acceptable for adults to wear bibs when they eat, and occasionally contemplate the idea of wearing one anyways.
6. If you go on a date, you have a hard time picking what to eat. You try to find the least messy thing on the menu.
7. And going off that, anything covered with sauce in any way, shape, or form is usually out of the question.
8. It's a common occurrence to get food on you, so you either have spare clothes, wear a jacket, or make sure you have enough time to change at all times.
9. If you are a naturally picky eater AND messy eater, you don't have many options when it comes to trying to eat something that will make the least amount of mess.
10. It takes you about twice as long to eat as it should because you are either A. Having to stop after every bite to wipe your face, or B. Trying to be extra careful to not make a mess.
11. Every time you finish eating, you ask if you have anything on your face, if you are told no you are extremely self- conscious because you know there is "no way" you could have eaten and not gotten anything on you.
12. If you have long(ish) hair, it is usually best to tie it back somehow, even if it is only when you eat.
13. Putting your hand in front of your mouth is almost always a must when you eat, so that if you do have anything on your face, you don't repulse anyone.
14. When eating a lone, you somehow manage to make a mess on the opposite end of the table than where you are sitting, even if the table it big enough to seat six.
15. There is never any question as to where you sat while eating because there is usually at least a minor mess, even if you were extra cautious.
Being a messy eater happens, you just have to embrace, accept it will happen, try your hardest not to let it happen, and move on when it does. It's inevitable and totally okay. Surround yourself with those who love you anyways.
