Whether you're a poet, novelist, playwright, or just an avid journalist, it's a given that you've experienced some, if not all, of these inconveniences firsthand. Literary aptitudes are heaven-sent, but all gifts come with a price. Luckily though, writers are an obstinate breed, and we've learned to roll with the punches.

1. Over-writing (and over-sharing in general).

2. Wanting to write by hand for aesthetic purposes.

3. But failing and crawling back to your laptop, begging for forgiveness.

4. Seeing someone and mentally noting their appearance because they’d make the perfect beau for your main character.

5. Making sure ALL of your work passes the Bechdel test.

6. Not having time to keep a journal because you focus too much on your other pieces.

7. Finding an incomplete story from years before and rewriting the ENTIRE thing in a night.

8. Having strangers accost you and try to bribe you to write their papers.

9. Finally being happy with something you produce.

10. And then having someone rip it to shreds.

11. Keeping your mouth closed when people tell you how “easy it is” to be a writer.

12. The mental anguish you experience when you try to avoid swearing every other word.

13. Fantasizing about having a personal life so much you decide to create one on paper (for your minor characters, of course).

14. Being told your passion is a starving art and you can’t do anything pursuing your degree.

15. Wishing writer’s block was a person so you could punch it.
