There is no denying that having a common name can be extremely frustrating. Since our name ultimately reflects our identity and individuality, we don’t want others having the same name as us because it’s our own. Sometimes you may feel like you have been cursed with the most popular name in the world. Okay, maybe it’s a plus since we can easily find personalized items with our name on them (alright, not so much), but the aggravation that we experience definitely gets old. If you endure the wrath of a common name, then I’m sure that you can relate to the following struggles.

1. You always get angry when you meet someone with your name.

"Hey, that’s mine…change yours please…thanks!"

2. When someone with your name...

...joins your sports team, club, or social group, you realize that you’re no longer the only *insert name here* anymore and that the confusion begins.

3. People are constantly spelling your name wrong left and right.

It’s not “Gabby,” “Gaby,” or “Gabbi,” It is “Gabi.”

4. There is most definitely a store, song, or book that your name is used in.

5. When you’re out in public and hear someone say your name.

You don’t know if they’re referencing you or someone else…let’s be real, probably someone else.

6. When your teacher starts taking attendance and three people raise their hands when your name is called…

“Alright, if you could include our last names next time, that would be much appreciated.”

7. When you’re waiting for the hostess to call your name at a restaurant...

…and she does, but it’s not for you. “Uhmmm…are you serious right now?”

8. There is a really good chance that you have a good friend with your name, but you either love it or you hate it.

9. Everyone makes up a nickname for you, or calls you by your last name, so there’s less confusion.

“Ok, did you ever ask me if I actually like this nickname? Yeah, I don’t."

10. Sometimes you'll receive phone calls or text messages that weren’t intended for you to begin with.

“Yeah, you have the wrong number…”.

11. When making a username or an email address, you can never manage to end up with something that actually resembles your name.

Username that I end up with: greenapple123

12. There is a point in your life when you have to accept that you will never be the only person with your name, anywhere.

13. You never really stand out in the crowd, something that can be recognized as both a blessing and a curse.

14. You wish that your parents could’ve given you a name that literally no one else in the universe had so none of this would ever occur.

15. At least, you know that your name will never go out of style.
