15 Songs That Describe Spring Semester Of College
University Post

After listening to Rihanna's song "Work", my friends and I started laughing about how it accurately described our college life. I put some consideration into it, and I realized there are a lot of songs out there that (sadly but hilariously) describe our lives as college students, ESPECIALLY during the spring semester slump. Listed below are some of the ones I found to be amusingly accurate.

1. Work – Rihanna

(For college, in every sense of the word)

“Work, work, work, work, work, work”

2. The Lazy Song – Bruno Mars

(For your first thought of the day)

“Today I don't feel like doing anything

I just wanna lay in my bed

'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

No I ain't gonna comb my hair

'Cause I ain't goin' anywhere”

3. Under Pressure – Queen and David Bowie

(For finals week)

“Insanity laughs under pressure, we're cracking”

4. With A Little Help From My Friends – The Beatles

(For finding comfort in friendship when you can't do it alone)

“Oh I get by with a little help from my friends

Mm I get high with a little help from my friends

Oh I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends”

5. I Need A Dollar – Aloe Blacc

(For when you're broke... all the time)

“I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need

Hey hey

Well I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need

Hey hey

And I said I need dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need”

6. All By Myself – Celine Deon

(For when you're trying to make plans with your friends who actually have social lives)

“Livin' alone

I think of all the friends I've known

When I dial the telephone

Nobody's home”

7. What Do You Mean – Justin Bieber

(For all the professors out there)

"Ohh I really want to know…

What do you mean?"

(And then when you actually ask them what they mean and they explain and they ask if you understand now)

"When you nod your head yes

But you wanna say no

What do you mean?"

8. Never Gonna Leave This Bed – Maroon 5

(For the 5 minutes before your 8 a.m.)

“I will never walk away again

I'm never gonna leave this bed, oh”

9. Time To Pretend – MGMT

(When people ask what we're doing with our lives and we have no idea)

“Yeah it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

We were fated to pretend.”

10. Shake It Off – Taylor Swift

(For pulling those all nighters in the library)

“I stay up too late, got nothing in my brain"

11. One More Cup Of Coffee – Bob Dylan

(For when you think you can get through the day on three hours ofsleep)

“One more cup of coffee for the road

One more cup of coffee 'fore I go.”

12. Stressed Out – Twenty One Pilots

(For when we arenostalgic and want life to be easier)

“Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol’ days,

When our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out.”

13. White Blank Page – Mumford and Sons

(For every paper you've ever started)

“A white blank page and a swelling rage, rage”

14. Nobody’s Perfect – Hannah Montana

(For when your professors give you assignments back and tell you it's all done wrong)

"I gotta work it!

Again and again 'til I get it right”

15. The Struggle – 10th Avenue North

(Again, for college. In every way.)

“Hallelujah

We are free to struggle”

While these song titles and lyrics describe college fairly well (at least for me), I find joy in knowing that there's only few more short weeks until summer. Which entitles me to add in the honorary sixteenth song,

16. I Will Survive

(For hope)

"I, I, I will survive"

Keep your head up folks! We're so close to summer!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
