I love music - there is such a wide array of genres of music that inspire me to listen and create. Today, I decided to share with you fifteen songs that I love and that I hope you can appreciate too. So, in no particular order, here are fifteen songs that I love.
1. "Rafiki" - Zap Mama
This is one of the many songs of my childhood (thanks for the awesome music taste grandma), and I couldn't be more thankful that I was introduced to such cool international music like this. Truly, this is my jam.
2. "Eugene" - Sufjan Stevens
Sufjan Stevens is one of my favorite alternative artists and this is, in my opinion, one of his best songs. It talks about his childhood and feelings of nostalgia and melancholy in a beautiful and non-traditional way.
3. "My Favorite Things" - In the style of Barbra Streisand
Barbra Streisand has a very special place place in my heart (again, thank you to my family for driving her into me at such a young age), and her version of the classic "The Sound of Music" song is so unique and sensual that I get chills every time I listen to it.
4. "Who Will Save Your Soul" - Jewel
Jewel has been a part of my life growing up for as long as I can remember, and "Who Will Save Your Soul" is arguable her most famous song. It's progressive, existential, and unique - everything I love.
5. "Be Here Now" - Ray Lamontagne
This song holds so much meaning for me. For the past few years I've looked to it as a way to keep myself grounded, and I've shared it with some of the people closest to me. I've found that people come and go, but the message that this song communicates has taught me to appreciate every moment for exactly what is it: unique and special, never to happen again.
6. "The Boy" - Tom Rosenthal
This song tells the story of a boy going on an adventure, and has the capability of touching anyone who listens to it. It's emotional and a beautiful narrative that everyone should hear.
7. "Gurdjeiff's Daughter" - Laura Marling
This is another unique song, and quite honestly, I don't have the right words to describe it. It's special and I'd highly recommend giving it a listen.
8. "Midnight City" - M83
M83 is my ultimate "pump up" band, and "Midnight City" is one of their classics. It's fun, energetic, and especially speaks to the young adult mind.
9. "Fields of Gold" - In the style of Eva Cassidy
I listened to Eva Cassidy with my mom growing up during dinner in our little dining room in our little apartment, and every time I listen to this song it brings me back. It's emotional, relatable, and simply vocally beautiful.
10. "The Dance" - Charlotte Martin
This song is raw and powerful, and it talks about heartbreak in such a unique way that I've found to be very relatable and comforting. The singer has an incredible and unique voice that adds to the songs power.
11. "Simple As This" - Jake Bugg
In "Simple As This," Jake Bugg reminds us to think small. He searches the world to find happiness and at the end of his journey, realizes that the happiness he was searching for lay in himself. It's a beautiful message portrayed in a great folk song.
12. "The Phantom of the Opera" - "The Phantom of the Opera"
This is one of my favorite shows, and the classic song, "The Phantom of the Opera" is so amazing because it combines opera with rock in such a unique way. The vocals are astounding and the message is intriguing and sensual.
13. My Man - "Funny Girl"
14. "Long Nights" - Eddie Vedder

15. "Brain Damage" - Pink Floyd
