Some days are better than others, and that inevitably means some days are also worse than others. On these days, the smallest problem can seem like a huge deal and your mood feels anything but up. Sometimes, all you need is a little pick me up to gain some perspective and feel better.
So, here's a list of 13 small things you can do throughout your day to make it a bit brighter.
1. Grab your favorite drink.
For me, having a caramel macchiato or a cherry Coke can improve my day exponentially.
2. Call your mom.
Or just someone you like talking to. My mom always makes me feel better about life.
3. Go outside.
Going for a run or just taking a stroll can help clear your head and the fresh air can make you feel instantly more content.
4. Listen to music.
Likely an upbeat song that makes you want to dance. It's a simple fix for improving your mood.
5. Make time to do something you enjoy.
Whether that's reading a book, playing an instrument, or cooking, do it.
6. "Treat yo self," as they say.
Don't go crazy and go out and buy a car, but if you see something you want and you can afford it, "treat yo self" to it.
7. Drink lots of water.
I hear it helps.
8. Watch your favorite film.
Whether that's a comedy, drama, rom com, etc., watch something you enjoy.
9. Take a nap.
Sometimes even 20 minutes of sleep can help to re-energize and motivate you.
10. Hang out with a friend.
Being around someone you're close with and who can distract you from whatever you're dealing with is a godsend.
11. Vent.
Preferably to said friend, or just anyone who you feel comfortable talking to and who's willing to listen.
12. Look through old photos.
Browsing through the photos on my camera roll, photos on Facebook, or even old family albums can remind you of happy memories and make you feel appreciative.
13. Remind yourself of the good things.
Think of all the good people, opportunities, and experiences you've had in your life. You'll likely be able to think of a lot.
I wouldn't recommend doing too many or all of these on a daily basis, however, since you can always have too much of a good thing. Save these for the bad days or the days when you just feel like you deserve a little pick me up. We all do at some point.
