We're all familiar with the terms 'extrovert' and 'introvert,' but did you know there's a term for the personality type in the middle for the person who's possibly a shy extrovert or an outgoing introvert?
The term is ambivert. Also known as being 'selectively social,' ambivert-ness (ambiversion?) carries qualities of both extroversion and introversion.
If you identify with most of the characteristics listed below, odds are you're probably an ambivert. Welcome to the club!
1. You can relate to things written about introverts, but then discover you can relate to the extrovert ones, too.
How is it possible to be both quiet AND outgoing?
2. You enjoy sitting at home watching Netflix as much as you enjoy hanging out with friends.
It's a hard decision until you realize you can hang out with friends and watch Netflix. It's the best of both worlds!
3. When you took the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Typology Indicator), you were surprised by your results.
I'm an extrovert? Really??
4. When your friends are equally surprised by your results. Or, when they can't agree on whether you're an introvert or an extrovert.
"You're, like, quiet, but at the same time, you're not."
5. Sometimes small talk comes naturally to you, sometimes it doesn't.
More often than not, it just feels a little insincere (even though you're really good at it).
6. When you've been alone for too long, you start feeling unproductive and listless.
I mean, I could be working on homework, but where's the fun in that?
7. And when you've been around people for too long, you start realizing how much you want to go home.
Like a switch that's been turned off. (Yep, just like that.)
8. You complement whoever you're with. If they're loud, you're quiet. If they're quiet, you talk to fill the silence.
And you're equally happy in both of these situations.
9. In a group, you prefer not to be the center of attention, but you still like being included.
"How can I be noticed without drawing too much attention to myself?"
10. You often find yourself watching from the sidelines, but just as often, you're right where the action is.
As long as you're in the know, that's all that matters.
11. When you're interested in a topic of conversation, you could talk for days.
And you don't care who listens!
12. But then you're equally as happy to listen to someone else talk.
I just want to hear you speak with that beautiful mouth.
13. You like meeting new people, but you're not likely to make the first move.
"If they want to talk to me, they'll come over!"
14. You can transition between your 'professional' self and your usual self pretty easily.
You discovered the perfect balance between 'professional' and 'playful' early on in life.
15. Consequently, adults love you.
You're quiet, and you listen when they talk, but you're also able to keep a conversation going, maybe even add a little humor in.
