If you cheered in high school you understand how passionate cheerleaders are about the sport. So when you graduated and had to break up with your one true love, you were heart broken. Here are some things that ex-cheerleaders might find themselves doing.
1. You have a drawer full of Nike Pros and matching sports bras in every color under the sun. Not to mention another drawer full of competition t-shirts and bows.
2. When you hear a new pop or hip-hop song you consider it a prospective cheer song. You think, “Wow this would be great for the pyramid section or the dance."
3. When working out you still point your toes. And you do pushups, planks, and sit-ups in hollow body.
4. You find yourself practicing sharp motions in a full-length mirror and attempting to pull your heel stretch or scorpion.
5. You can still hear your coach yelling, “Squeeze! Save that stunt!"
6. You wonder what would happen if you tried a toe touch or a standing tuck again. Being able to say, “I still got it" means a lot.
7. You follow cheer pages on Facebook, Instagram, and Tumblr. Watching cheer routines on YouTube still gets you excited.
8. You're a pro at getting a high ponytail up to the crown of your head because that's where your bow used to sit.
9. You feel like a proud mom when you watch your old team perform. They have come so far!
10. You have a reoccurring nightmare about showing up late to a competition or forgetting your routine. The horror lives on.
11. You proudly announce that your team got first place AND grand champs at blah blah blah competition. Nobody cares or even knows what you are talking about but you still like to boast about your team's accomplishments.
12. You have a battle scar that you got from your flyer. You forgave her though; you would never drop her even after she kicked you.
13. You are tempted to try on your old uniform and dance around in it.
14. Staying in a hotel reminds you of all the competition weekends spent on the road with your team.
15. If someone asks you if you were an athlete you proudly answer, “Yes, I was a cheerleader." Then you are ready to argue that cheer is in fact a vigorous, physically and mentally demanding sport that combines tumbling, dance, and stunting. Only true athletes can defy gravity by flipping through the air, lifting, throwing, and catching people, and performing a nonstop high-energy routine.
