In a city where fried food is the norm, the search for salad often hits a dead end. However, there are some restaurants in this lovely city that do offer some salads that one can consider "normal" and healthy. From your classic Caesar to some crazy inventive salads, here are 15 of my favorites:

1. Cobb Salad at Hivolt Coffee

Sicker than your average Cobb—the mustard vinaigrette is what makes it so great. Nothing goes greater with this salad than one of Hivolt's famous muffins.

2. Grilled Salmon Salad at Superior Seafood

The perfect all in one meal. A large portion of salmon and grilled veggies all atop some lovely mixed greens—what could get any better?

3. Grilled Heart of Romaine Caesar Salad at Boucherie

As delicious as it is gorgeous. Don't be afraid to get messy with this perfectly composed twist on the classic Caesar salad.

4. Health Nut Salad at Charcoal's Gourmet Burger Bar

For the health nut, of course. Not what one would expect to find on the menu of a burger bar, but hey—I'm not complaining.

5. Maple Pecan and Feta Salad at Milk Bar

When you think Milk Bar, you normally think of the ooey gooey goodness that sits between two slices of delicious ciabatta bread, right? Wrong. Start expanding your horizons my friends. Milk Bar has AMAZING salads as well. This one's a fan favorite.

6. Seared Tuna Salad at the Rum House

Tacos and Rum House normally go hand in hand, but if you're craving the yummy and leafy goodness of a salad, this one's a winner.

7. Kale Salad at Johnny Sanchez

Leave it to the great duo of Aarón Sánchez and John Besh to concoct this bad boy. This salad combines everything that you could ever want into one dish—salty, sweet, crunchy, zesty. You name it, this salad's got it.

8. Gyro Salad at Lebanon's Cafe

So simple yet so delicious. Order hummus to eat along with it, and add feta. Huge game changer.

9. Parmesan Reggiano Salad at St. James Cheese Company

What could be lovelier? Fancy parmesan and salami atop mixed greens dressed in only the most delicious dressing. Compensate for the fact that you went for the so-called "lighter option" by ordering a cheese plate and some wine.

10. Mediterranean Quinoa Salad at Satsuma

Definitely one of the most well-known salad in all of New Orleans, and with good reason. The sprinkled feta and the scrumptious lemon vinaigrette are what make this baby so famous. Oh, and did I mention the hummus toast on the side?

11. Greek Salad at Slice Pizzeria

Exactly what you would think it is. A simple yet delicious classic that is sometimes necessary in the sea of crazy and creative salads that are around these days.

12. The Eagle Street at Good Bird (located inside St. Roch Market)

Lemony, yummy dressed arugula with pecans, parmesan, and only the best of chicken (this restaurant does NOT live down to its name). The addition of avocado was definitely a power move, and a good one at that.

13. Caesar Salad at Louisiana Pizza Kitchen

Sometimes you just need a good ol' plain and simple Caesar salad. And when you do, Louisiana Pizza Kitchen is the place to get it.

14. Roasted Cauliflower and Garden Vegetable Salad at Reginelli's

Nothing simple about this concoction. Roasted veggies and PANCETTA. What mad person thought of this?!

15. Chimi Chimi Bang Bang at JuiceNOLA (located inside St. Roch Market)

Almost a salad, almost a quinoa bowl—you be the judge. This dish's identity crisis certainly does not take away from how delicious it is.

Bet you didn't think New Orleans actually had 15 decent salads, did you? Well, there you have it. Never eat fried food if you don't want to ever again. Enjoy all of the green and crunchy salads that NOLA has to offer!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
