15 Questions Every Daughter Has Asked Her Dad
Alexandria Altwies

Being a daddy's girl, my dad has been my go-to guy for as long as I can remember. He taught me how to tie my shoes, how to ride a bike and how to fish (even though I always made him bait the hook). As I got older, he taught me how to drive, how to handle my finances and how to be successful in the big-girl world. I hate to admit it, but it's true when they say that your parents are always right. Thanks to my dad, I have grown into someone that he and I can both be proud of.

Although I do considerably well living on my own and "adulting", there are still times when I need his guidance to get me through. Okay let's be real--I call or text him, at least, three times a week. It's not my fault he's super-dad and amazing at everything! Here are 15 questions every daughter has asked her dad.

1. How do I fix that?

It could be something as simple as changing a light bulb. I'm not taking any chances.

2. Can't you just do it?

After five minutes of him explaining how to actually fix the thing that's broken, odds are, I'm still going to ask him to do it. Because let's be real, I was not paying attention to anything he just said--I was thinking about how I really just wanted him to take care of it himself.

3. Will you deposit money in my account?

Sometimes life just hits you really hard; you get a speeding ticket, your electric bill is higher than usual, you've been eating ramen for the past four days. Whatever it may be, dad always comes to the rescue.

4. Can I get a dog?

No.

5. Why isn't mom answering me?

Because if mom doesn't answer, call dad. He knows everything.

6. Can I afford this?

"No Alex, you cannot afford $325 VIP tickets to see Lana Del Rey."

"But daaaaaaaad."

*Cue puppy dog eyes*

7. Is my car supposed to sound like this?

When it comes to the world of automobiles, I literally know nothing. Every warning light could be on in my car and I still wouldn't know what was wrong. So the second something starts to sound not-so-good, you best believe I'm pressing his name on speed dial.

8. When do I need an oil change?

"2,000 miles past when the sticker says."

*Nervously say 'thank you' as I realize I've gone about 5,000*

9. Can you pay for that?

The answer is always among the realms of "Why is it that you can afford a new pair of shoes every week but not a $30 oil change every six months?"

Touche dad, touche.

10. Can I get a dog?

The answer is still no.

11. Why do boys suck?

Sometimes it just feels better hearing your dad bash your ex. He also always reminds me that boys suck--men do not.

12. How do taxes work and why do I have to pay them?'

He explains it to me every time and I'm still just as confused as I was the first time I asked.

13. Are you sure I can't get a dog?

I honestly just think a dog would solve a lot of my problems, but he disagrees.

15. You know I love you, right?

No matter how much we argue or disagree, he's still the person I aspire to become. His drive, success, and compassion make his advice and wisdom one of a kind. I honestly don't know where I would be without him in my life. It doesn't matter how old I am--my dad's guidance will always be something I appreciate and love.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
