Ah, finally, the time of the year when I won't be judged for watching "Dr. Suess's How the Grinch Stole Christmas" every day of December until the twenty-fifth. Despite my argument that proves that "The Grinch" is the best movie of all time, holiday or not, it turns out that reciting all of the lines while watching the DVD in July can be perceived as weird. Other than the hot chocolate and satisfying scents of pine and peppermint that diffuse into your nose during the holidays, movies dedicated to the most wonderful time of year are what makes it so wonderful. Here are fifteen of some of the best holiday movies.
1. Dr. Suess's How The Grinch Stole Christmas
The best movie, holiday or not. How Jim Carrey did not receive larger recognition for this (yeah, I'm talking about an Oscar) is beyond me.
2. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
3. Love Actually
It never gets old.
4. Elf
The last time I watched "Elf" was maybe my three hundredth time watching the film, and was it only that three hundredth time that I fully grasped the absurdity of the concept and was delighted on yet another layer of comedy. This movie will continue to be nothing short of a timeless, comedic masterpiece.
5. A Christmas Story
My favorite part about spending Christmas with my family is is watching "A Christmas Story" eighty times in the same day. No sarcasm, all love for this hilarious film.
6. Home Alone
Might as well watch 2 and 3 in the same sitting, I'd argue you're wasting you're time if you don't.
7. The Ref
Kevin Spacey, black humor, Christmas thriller. I'm already there.
8. The Year Without A Santa Clause
A personal favorite when I was a child, I loved watching the animation for the "Heatmeiser" and "Snowmeiser" musical numbers that still thrill me today.
9. The Nightmare Before Christmas
10. Krampus
This Christmas/sci-fi/horror film is worth the watch, and definitely worth the few hours of sleep you might miss out on from the all the spooks.
11. The Polar Express
And I'm suddenly craving some hot hot hot chocolate...
12. Just Friends
Ryan Reynolds being the dreamiest comedy actor of the early 2000s in this shameless holiday rom-com.
13. A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas
Bless you, Comedy Central, for airing this sometimes in December.
14. Bad Santa
Let me know in the comments if I should put "Bad Santa 2" onto this list.
15. Mickey's Christmas Carol
Scrooge McDuck is the villain of all villains. Well, of the holiday movies, that is.
