I don't know about you, but for me 2015 was an amazing year for music. So many artists that I like, or started to like, released music during 2015. Artists from Adele to Troye Sivan and Justin Bieber all released incredible music during this year. In no particular order, here are my favorite albums from 2015.
1. Melanie Martinez, Cry Baby
Cry Baby is absolutely one of my favorite albums of 2015. The production on this album draws you so far in that you can't escape, and before you know it, you've listened to the whole album and have missed your 9 a.m. You might recognize her song "Carousel" off of this album from one of the trailers for Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story: Freak Show. My personal favorites off this album are "Mrs. Potato Head," "Pity Party," and "Mad Hatter."
2. Troye Sivan, Blue Neighbourhood
Another personal favorite of mine from 2015 is famous YouTuber Troye Sivan's debut album Blue Neighbourhood. Sivan's baritone voice beautifully serenades you on every single song off of this album. Another reason that I personally enjoy this album is because of the raw, meaningful lyrics like, "Awake, wide eyed / I'm screaming at me / Trying to keep faith and picture his face / Staring up at me." My favorites off this album are "for him. (feat. Allday)," "Youth," and "Ease (feat. Broods)."
3. Drake & Future, What a Time to Be Alive
I rejoiced when Drake and Future created What a Time to Be Alive. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, and it's easy to see why. My favorites off this album are "Jumpman," "Big Rings," and "Live from the Gutter."
4. Bryson Tiller, Trapsoul
Newcomer Bryson Tiller blew me away with his album Trapsoul. Immediately after hearing one song off the album, I found myself downloading another, and another, and eventually the whole album. My personal favorites include "Don't," "Exchange," and "Rambo."
5. Justin Bieber, Purpose
I've always been a Belieber, but Purpose was something else. This album blew me away completely. Even my friends that aren't Justin Bieber friends have songs on the album that they like. His songs "Love Yourself," "Sorry," and "What Do You Mean?" from the album have all been chart toppers. My personal favorites are "Been You," "Company," "No Sense (feat. Travis Scott)," and "Love Yourself."
6. Fetty Wap, Fetty Wap
Fetty Wap's debut album Fetty Wap is, without a doubt, one of my personal favorites from 2015. Fetty Wap topped the US Billboard 200 at number one with this album. 2015 was undeniably the year of Fetty Wap, and I think there's plenty more to come from this artist. My favorites off the album include, "My Way," "679," and "RGF Island."
7. Drake, If You're Reading This It's Too Late
Another top of mine from 2015 is Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late. Drake took over the beginning of 2015 when he dropped the mixtape suddenly in February. "Know Yourself" off of the album became popular immediately. My favorites include "Preach (feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR)," "10 Bands," and "Energy."
8. FKA Twigs, M3LL155X - EP
I just recently got into FKA Twigs, and this EP, M3LL155X, has already earned it's spot as one of my favorites from 2015. FKA Twigs' alternative sound isn't for everyone, but I suggest you take a listen. A music video was made for every song, and I suggest you check those out even more so. My favorite song off this short EP is "Glass & Patron."
9. Grimes, Art Angels
I never really was a fan of Grimes until I saw her open up for Lana Del Rey at Tinley Park in Illinois, but this album is incredible. Grimes has credit for writing and composing almost every song on the album, and her name is at least on each one for other credits. My favorites off this album are "Venus Fly (feat. Janelle Monáe)," "Realiti," and "Flesh Without Blood."
10. Marina and the Diamonds, Froot
I don't know about you, but ever since the Electra Heart era ended, I was lost without new Marina and the Diamonds. Finally, at the end of 2014, we were blessed with the single Froot, and eventually in 2015, the rest of the album. Even though Electra Heart is still my favorite Marina album, Froot takes a close second. My favorites off this album are, "I'm A Ruin," "Forget," and "Can't Pin Me Down."
11. Years & Years, Communion
Communion is the debut album from British electronica trio Years & Years. The first few singles off the album were released in 2014, followed by the full album in July. My favorite songs off this album are "King," "Desire," and "Shine."
12. MNEK, Small Talk - EP
Yet another EP on my list, but yet another amazing one that deserves to be on this. MNEK's EP Small Talk only has a handful of songs, but his powerful voice shines on every track. Fun fact: he's only 21. My favorite song of this EP is "More Than A Miracle."
13. Jess Glynne, I Cry When I Laugh
You may not know her by name, but you should. You probably recognize her from Clean Bandit's song "Rather Be" that she is featured in, or the other song she did with them "Real Love." My favorite songs off this debut album are "Hold My Hand," "Don't Be So Hard On Yourself," and "Ain't Got Far to Go."
14. Madonna, Rebel Heart
Even though it had one of the messiest album leaks of all time, Rebel Heart was one of my favorite albums of 2015. I was slayed once in 2012 with her Nicki Minaj collaboration on "Give Me All Your Luvin'," and I was slayed again when she released, "B**ch, I'm Madonna" off this album. My favorites are "B**ch, I'm Madonna," "Living For Love," and "Devil Pray."
15. Kehlani, You Should Be Here
You Should Be Here is Kehlani's debut mixtape. This hip-hop album showcases features such as Chance the Rapper and BJ the Chicago Kid. This album reached 36 on the US Billboard 200. My favorites off this mixtape are "The Way (feat. Chance the Rapper)," "Alive (feat. Coucheron)," and "You Should Be Here."
