15 Things You Are Familiar With If You Have Lived In New York
Janelle Behm

Growing up in upstate New York until I was 10 and visiting every year since, I have picked up on certain things that people in Virginia are not familiar with. This list is mostly food, but let’s be honest, that is what is most important here.

1)Tim Hortons

I’ll take a pack of Tim Bits please, but with Dunkin Donuts coffee….

2) Loganberry

No other way I’d rather get my daily sugar intake. It’s like the Cheerwine of the north.

3) Platters

There is no chocolate like orange chocolate. Let me tell you about this stuff called sponge candy…

4) Wings *especially from Duff’s*

The OG chicken wings, sorry BDubs.

5) Pizza, pizza, and more pizza

No caption needed, I mean really.

6) Frozen Custard

This. Is. Ice. Cream. Even if it’s winter, I’m not opposed.

7) Colosso Taco

A wonderful world where it’s acceptable to get pizza roll ups and a chicken burrito in the same meal.

8)Calling this “pop” instead of “soda.”

I have been calling it soda for 10 years, but it took a while.

Also, the sweet tea isn’t really sweet tea unless you like Brisk. Yikes.

Moving on to something other than food…

9) Hearing “it’s gonna be huuuuuuuuuge” not from Donald Trump, but from Tony Fuccillo. My apologies, I had to.

10) Seeing an advertisement for Celino & Barnes, not 100% sure who is who (still to this day) and always forgetting their phone number. I’m kidding about the last part it’s only one number.

11) Going to the Niagara Falls is fun. It’s pretty. But after what feels like a couple hundred of times…..

12) You can pronounce Scajaquada. Don’t be intimidated, it’s only an expressway.

13) Going to Canada for a bit during the day is no big deal. Their side of the falls is cooler anyway.

14) Taking your 4th grade field trip on the Erie Canal.

And finally:

15) Using “you guys” instead of “y’all” in everyday speech.

Don’t worry Virginia, I’ll write about 15 things I like about you next week!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
