Faith is hard to come by in today's time, with all of the violence and hateful acts in the world. It becomes more difficult to believe in God and His light, but He always manages to help guide the way for a lost soul. Whenever you feel the like you've lost your way, pull out a Bible and look up one, or even all, of these forty verses.

1. Jeremiah 29:11

"'For I know the plans I have for you.' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

2. Psalm 27:4

"One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple."

3. Psalm 34:8

"Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him."

4. Romans 12:12

"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."

5. Isaiah 40:28-31

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

6. John 15:13

"Greater love has no one than this; to lay down one's life for one's friends."

7. Romans 8:28

"And we know that in all things God works for the good or those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose."

8. Romans 15:13

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

9. Romans 8:38-39

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is Christ Jesus our Lord."

10. 1 Corinthians 13:12

"For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known."

11. Lamentations 3:22-23

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

12. Romans 8:31

"What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"

13. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Through outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

14. 1 Corinthians 16:13

"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong."

15. Psalm 23:1

"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
