With the yuletide approaching and finals nearing an end, it is a great time to hole up in your dorm for the last few days before you return home and binge watch Christmas movies to get into the Christmas spirit. So make yourself a cup of hot cocoa, bundle up in your blankets and disappear for 36-72 hours with this list of the 15 best Christmas movies of all time:
15. A Very Murray Christmas
This charming Christmas special is nothing like what I anticipated. With a diverse cast of stars, including Miley Cyrus, Maya Rudolph, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, and more. Murray is a decently funny host, though occasionally outshined by his talented co-stars, and the special is enough to get you excited for the holiday season while still maintaining Murray's classic sardonic humor. Definitely, a good place to start your holiday binge, and it's available now on Netflix.
14. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Tim Burton's original take on Christmas is classic, but there is often debate over whether it is a Christmas or Halloween movie. In my opinion, it's good for any time of year.
13. Prep and Landing
Ok, so I really like this short. Which is kind of embarrassing, but so is the fact that I have taken a significant part out of my weekend to make this list. It is an animated short about the covert operation that is delivering Christmas presents on Christmas Eve, starring a disgruntled and under appreciated Elf and his new co-worker.
12. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Jim Carrey is hilarious in the modern rendition of a Dr. Seuss classic. This movie is outlandish and absurd, but it's also a great watch and entertaining for kids and adults alike. Also, who wants to pass up tiny Taylor Momsen as Cindy Lou- Who?
11. The Holiday
Often the rival of the favored Christmas classic "Love, Actually" (we're getting to that). The Holiday is a super cute romantic comedy about two women who are fed up with their respective love lives and decide to do a house swap for the holidays. It's cute, funny and has a great cast.
10. A Christmas Story
"I want an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle!"
9. Elf
8. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
What happens when your family tries to ruin your perfect Christmas? It gets complicated.
7. How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)Although Jim Carrey's rendition of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" is certainly funnier, nothing rivals the original. Enhanced by the hand-drawn animation, 1966 TV short is timeless.
6. It's a Wonderful Life
5. Love Actually
4. Die Hard
It's a Christmas ACTION movie, and it's amazing. Bruce Willis blows shit up and still makes it home for Christmas.
3. The Polar Express
When a little boy is questioning his Christmas spirit, the Polar Express brings him to the North Pole to keep him believing. The movie is cute and entertaining and captures what it is like to loose faith in the Christmas spirit.
2. Home Alone
This movie is good at any time of year but particularly during Christmas. Who doesn't love an 8-year-old boy defending his home from criminals after being left behind by his frazzled family?
1. A Charlie Brown Christmas
The peanuts teach us the real meaning of Christmas through their reenactment of the Christmas Story and the adoption of a small tree. And my all time favorite Christmas movie.
