15 Affordable Products To Help College Students Survive and Thrive

College is an excellent opportunity to fully embrace life and it's new opportunities. However, every college student knows that another huge part of the college experience is the almost-continuous presence of homework, financial troubles and stress. So, here is a list of affordable and (mostly) practical products--recommended by the Internet, my friends, and myself--that might help you survive and thrive during your years as a student.

1. Band-Aid Blister Cushions for Fingers and Feet

I absolutely swear by these Band-Aids. They are cushioned, demure, and stick super well. If you have any cut on your hand or foot, or a painful blister from your new shoes, these are the perfect solution. Get a box here from Amazon for $7 or pick them up at any grocery store or pharmacy.

2. Dancing Water Speakers

Yes, I know; totally unnecessary. But you know you're going to buy speakers anyways, so why not choose these easy-to-use speakers that also create their own dancing water show to the beat of your favorite music? This is an easy way to make studying to music more peaceful or fun, and you can also pull them out on the weekend when friends are over. There are lots of options on Amazon, but here's a set for $19.

3. Cereal To-Go Containers

These containers have separate sections for milk and cereal, and a spoon the attaches to the lid. The bottom section can be stored in a freezer, keeping the milk cold until you're ready to eat. Also practical for yogurt and granola, or any other combination you can come up with! Stop skipping breakfast. Set of two for $12.

4. Ultimate Planner

There are tons of options out there for planners, but this is a great one. It has weekly and monthly calendars that you can fill with every upcoming assignment and meeting. This one also has space for notes, meal plans and to-do lists. Buy it here for $16.

And if pen and paper planners aren't your thing, try an app. Cal and Tempo are both highly rated options that sync to your phone's calendar and have a variety of useful features.

5. Teavana "Perfectea" Infuser

I can not rave about this enough. If you're a loose-leaf tea drinker, this is almost a necessity. Just place your tea into the infuser and pour hot water over the top. When it's done steeping, place it onto your mug and the mechanism will automatically release the tea into your cup. It's amazing. Buy it here for $20.

6. Food Huggers

These ingenious little contraptions will help you save your half-used fruits and vegetables for much longer. So maybe you'll eat a little healthier and save money not wasting produce! $10 for this set of four.

7. Cyber Clean Home and Office Compound

This bright yellow compound can clean and disinfect all of your household items. There's a huge list of possibilities, but some of the most practical uses are: disinfecting your phone or laptop, getting the dust or crumbs out of your keyboard, or spot-cleaning appliances. So I guess this means you're free to continue eating snacks while watching Netflix on your laptop. There are lots of options on Amazon, but here is one for $7.

8. Sleep Headphones

Have a roommate who snores or need to listen to music to sleep? Here's your solution. This soft, padded headband blocks out ambient noise and can also play music without the discomfort of ear buds. They may not have the sound quality of expensive headphones, but they'll do the trick and be comfortable all night. Many styles available on Amazon; these can be found here for $40.

9. Waterproof Shower Notepad

I'm sure you have lots of great ideas all the time, but if you find yourself coming up with most of your great thoughts in the shower, it might be time to invest in one of these. Never forget another brilliant bathroom brainstorm. $8 on Amazon.

10. 5-in-1 Kitchen Utensil

For the accomplished college cook who's tired of searching for different tools all over the kitchen, and the clueless cook who can experiment with the different functions all day if necessary. With this one cheap tool you can take care of most of your cooking needs. It acts as a slotted spoon, turner, cutting tool, solid spoon, and spatula. $8 and available here.

11. Cell Phone Night Light

This adorable little device is super simple. All you have to do is clip it onto your phone where the flashlight would be and turn on the flashlight feature on your phone. It mutes the light into a softer nightlight style. Ideal for late night reading, or for trying to find something in your room when your roommate is already passed out for the night. Sold exclusively here, for $9.

12. Fix-all Hardware Sealer

Also called moldable glue. Basically if you have something that's broken, there's a good chance this can fix it. Honestly, this stuff seems to do just about everything. You can use it on your broken furniture, to patch holes in leaky shoes or camping equipment, to fix broken cords, or to stick something to just about anything else [and probably a million other possibilities as well]. It is waterproof, UV resistant, dishwasher proof, and sticks to almost any surface. A set of eight single use packs is around $22 on Amazon. Purchase some or learn more here.

13. Poo-Pourri

If you're a college student, more than likely you live in a dorm, an apartment, or a house shared with other college students. In most of these cases, chances are you don't have your own private bathroom. And even if you do, you want it to smell nice for yourself! So apparently if you spray a bit of this stuff into the toilet bowl before you use the bathroom, there won't be any bad smells to annoy anyone else who shares the space. Enough said. Less than $10 for a bottle.

14. George Foreman Grill

This mini grill will fit in your mini kitchen but can still cook a lot of food, and fast! It's intended primarily for burgers, but could definitely cook lots of other types of meat, sandwiches, quesadillas, grilled vegetables, and so on. Find lots of recipes here. This model is $30.

15. Collapsible Bento Box

I recently bought one of these, and I have no regrets. The middle section is freezable and stays cold for several hours, so if you're putting in any foods that should be kept cold, that's a useful feature. It also has three smaller top sections, and a bottom section that expands if you need more space. This thing is brilliant. It can help you eat healthier or save money not eating out every day! This is only $11.30 on Amazon.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
