Daily Happy Quotes

By around this time you are probably making your first trip home from college or maybe you have already experienced one and are not even sure what to do. In such a short time there is only so much you can get done, but be sure to get these tasks completed on your first weekend home!

1. Sleep in Your Bed

Weeks in an uncomfortable and small bed have taken their toll, so make sure to relax and get a good night’s sleep free from noise from your roommates and neighbors!

2. Enjoy a Home-Cooked Meal

You are probably sick of dining hall food and Easy-Mac so make sure to enjoy whatever your mom whips up- something free from preservatives!

3. Eat at your Favorite Restaurant

If your favorite local restaurant is not near your college or you simply do not have transportation to go out to eat at college, make sure to take a trip to satisfy your cravings!

4. Take a Trip to Your Favorite Grocery Store

Along the lines of visiting our favorite restaurant, paying a trip to your usual grocery store at home can be helpful especially if there is not one by where you go to school.

5. Catch Up With Friends

If you have friends who also happen to be home, friends at Community College or even younger high-school age friends be sure to pay them a visit or just go out to eat somewhere just to catch up and spend time together.

6. Spend Time With Family

Remember- you are here to visit with your family too so be sure to spend time with them-whether that means eating dinner, catching a movie, playing a board game, you owe them some family bonding time.

7. Take Advantage of Your Own Bathroom

You can finally take a shower without hitting the wall! Or use those bath bombs you have saved up or even just take advantage of having your own space and not having to share with several other teenagers.

8. Use your Own Space

If your roommate doesn’t like you blasting music in your room, you can do it at home! Even utilizing the quiet you have at home can be good to get some homework done.

9. Watch some TV

If you do not have a television in your dorm room it might be nice to on your couch and catch an episode rather than watching Netflix from your laptop for a change.

10. Grab Any Things you Need

Take this opportunity to pick up anything you need at school or swap out clothes in the changing seasons.

11. Do Laundry

Doing your laundry at home is always so much better than doing it at school with multiple trips back and forth to your room, setting timers, and having so many people around, so make sure to bring your hamper home for the weekend.

12. Enjoy Not Paying For Anything

When you’re home you can hopefully get away having your parents pay for your groceries or at least picking up the tab at dinner!

13. Relax

You most likely do not have a lot of downtime between your academic obligations and visiting with friends so be sure to schedule some alone time to just unwind and be by yourself.

Make the most out of your visit at home-especially if you will not be back in awhile!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
