It seems as though the more I’ve been at Central Michigan University, the more I seem to notice things about life in the middle of Mount Pleasant that are not really much like life anywhere else. Not only is there no mountain in Mount Pleasant (spoiler!), but there are a lot of other weird quirks to going to school in a medium sized town in the middle of the mitten. I’m sure tons of other students can relate:
1. Getting blown over by the wind
I wondered why all of the windmills were in the fields near Mount Pleasant…until about Labor Day when the winds pick up and don’t stop howling until after spring is long gone.
2. “But, it’s pint night”
…is a regular thing you hear on Tuesday evenings.
3. You know how to pronounce Anspach
And, incorrectly pronouncing it gets some pretty weird looks.
4. Pretending you know Brenda
Do you really know Brenda? Didn’t think so.
5. You get excited when you hear “Jesus dogs”
Who doesn’t love free food?
6. The library elevators have given you a heart attack..more than once
You could probably walk up the stairs quicker, anyway.. but was the elevator even moving in the first place?
7. The most recent emojis on your phone are for Fire Up
And you use them even when they don’t make sense.
8. You ran out of flex dollars, like, weeks ago
Heck, some of us were in the negative (yes, that happens).
9. Being yelled at by the crazy Jesus man
We all know the megaphone man standing between Anspach and Pierce hall...
10. You’ve gone the long way to class so you can cut through buildings
Face it, the wind and the below-zero temperatures make walking to class a daily struggle.
11. The first time it hits 35 degrees you break out your shorts
And the majority of campus does the same.
12. Two words, parking services
Need I say more?
