Since kindergarten, we have been taught that February is the shortest month of the year. Any student (or teacher), however, can confirm that while this is mathematically correct, perceptually it could not be farther from the truth. The real shortest months of the year are the combined June, July, and first half of August that make up our summer vacation.
Every summer begins with high hopes for productivity, relaxation, and enjoyment. But schedules get busy and before you know it, Target has their school supplies out and you have to face reality. As families across the country prepare for the school year ahead, college students get ready to move back to campus and resume their college careers. The end of summer typically comes with a few realizations for these college students, and here are just a few:
1. You never got around to that "To-do" list.
You know, the one you made throughout second semester for things you would have time to do once school was over? Oops.
2. You spent most of your time working.
This made it tough to meet up with friends and have the socialization you were hoping for this summer (unless you're lucky enough to work with your friends).
3. But as a result, you aren't (quite) as broke!
Don't worry, that will change as soon as either (a) your tuition is due or (b) you go back to school and have time to spend that money you were earning.
4. You never got that tan you were hoping for.
Just don't use that money you've earned for a bad spray tan.
5. You also forgot to finish unpacking your things.
So maybe you've been living out of boxes back at home for the past three months and can never find half of your stuff.
6. But at least you already have a head start on packing!
Trying to remember what you actually used when you were at school is tough now that you've had access to all of your things at once.
7. You didn't get to see everyone that you wanted to.
Either make plans for your last week at home quickly, or make plans for a FaceTime-session as soon as you get back to school.
8. You definitely aren't ready to get back to class.
You still kept yourself busy this summer, but hours of note-taking and lectures sound excruciating.
9. So you better have one more night of fun while you can.
You will not be this stress-free for another nine months.
10. You are, however, ready to see your friends!
The group chat filled the gaps, but there's nothing quite like reuniting with your besties and catching up on your summer adventures.
11. You now have one less summer vacation ahead of you.
Unless you plan on becoming a teacher, the summer breaks in your future are scarce.
12. You are going to miss home.
Even though it always takes an adjustment, you enjoyed the quality time with your family.
13. You're also ready to be independent again.
You can relax a little bit more when mom and dad aren't looking over your shoulder.
14. Overall, you've made some great memories this summer.
And you wouldn't trade them for the world.
