How often do you list all 12 dressings your restaurant carries just for the customer to choose ranch? When was the last time you got yelled at for the kitchen's mistake but had to take it anyways? If you can answer these questions, you've been a server and can relate to the love-hate relationship that comes with the job. Here are 14 struggles that you know all too well.
1. Hope you don't plan on celebrating holidays.
"Do you have any big Valentine's day plans?"
2. You'll start to believe all your coworkers are thieves.
"Where are all the pens?! Didn't we just get a bunch of new ones?"
3. Opening the restaurant might just be the death of you.
"I need you to make 300 roll ups."
4. People always want to sit at your dirty table.

5. Better practice your courtesy laugh.
"Have you ever looked into pursuing a comedy career? You're too funny!"
6. Sometimes they'll forget you're even there.

7. Until you walk away...
"Waiter I need you right now I've been waiting for 18 seconds."
8. Fast talkers who think you're a savant.
"Okay will you say that one more time for me please?"
9. Learn to listen to multiple people at once.
"Excuse me waiter, I see you talking to another table but we'd like to order right now."
10. Have fun splitting that check.
"Yes, my wife is the one way down at the end, we'll be together."
11. Feedback never matches the tip.
"You did a great job, thank you! We're going to leave an outstanding comment card."
12. People never want to leave.
"We've been done eating for 90 minutes but we're going anywhere anytime soon. Keep those waters coming."
13. If the opening shift didn't kill you, the closing shift might.
"I know you've been here all day and want to leave, but first I need you to fill every salt, pepper and sugar caddy in the restaurant."
