Having to find a job is probably one of the most intimidating events ever in life. People get hired every day, but that doesn’t make it any less stressful. As a student still in college or a new grad, you’re trying to make your way into the “real" world. I've found out the application process is definitely not sunshine and rainbows.
While going through my own struggles of never-ending applications and crossing all my phalanges that I actually hear back from a company, I found some GIFs that are too accurate that it helps make the situation a little humorous. So here’s my experience so far, and maybe some of you can relate (and hopefully laugh a little about it too).
1. It all starts off with someone asking, “So what are you going to do?” They could either mean what are you going to do right now, in the near future, or with your entire life. Either way it’s all overwhelming.
2. Then you realize. The answer has been right there in front of you this whole time.
3. So you think, "Maybe I should sit down and actually look for something I'm interested in." Yeah...easier said than done.
4. So you end up getting a little bit discouraged, and all seems hopeless.
5. You finally think of something, so you allow yourself to get a little bit excited. You can do this.
6. You type that job in that lovely search bar with confidence and hit enter.
7. Surprise! There's either too much to choose from or nothing at all.
8. You find a company that looks like you could possibly enjoy working for them. You go right for that "Careers" button.
9. You actually find something you like! You start reading. The description is something you know you'd be good at. Then you look at the requirements. You would need to have management experience at age 12 for that job.
10. Somehow you trudge through the disappointment. You find something you're qualified for. You upload your resume that's been waiting on your desktop for two years. Then you fill out what you do and why you're qualified.
11. You applied! Congratulations. But now the waiting game starts.
12. Days go by. Weeks go by. Did you do something wrong? Did the person in HR not get how awesome you are from your cover letter?
13. Then FINALLY. You get that email. And either it's really good news, or it's news that makes you want to hide from all responsibility.
14. Either way, life goes on. Either you're preparing for interviews or preparing to go through this process all over again. For both instances, just remember to breathe. You'll get through this.
Good luck everybody. Show those employers what your expensive college education has taught you.
