Growing up as a dancer takes a lot of dedication and commitment. Whether you were on dance team or danced at a studio each dancer shares similar nostalgias.

I have so many memories, good and bad that I can take away from being a dancer for about 10 years of my life. Even though I do not continue my life as a dancer, the disciplines, thoughts, and attitudes that I once had, did not just magically disappear.

I still think about these on the daily basis. These 14 signs will be carried with me for the rest of my life.

1. You count "5-6-7-8" before anything you do.

2. You wore a dance costume for Halloween at least once.

3. Your feet automatically go in either 1st, 3rd, or 5th position while standing.

4. With every song, you listen to you make up an imaginary dance in your head.

5. You can put fake eyelashes on with no problem, since you had to at every dance competition, recital, etc.

6. You can get dressed in the back seat of a car in 5 seconds.

7. Every song you hear you say, "I've done a dance to this," even though most of your friends can't relate.

8. Every bone in your body cracks and it's totally normal.

9. You've said, "I can't, I have dance practice," at least a billion times to your friends and family.

10. When you see people walking with their feet turned in, it makes you cringe.

11. You will always get upset when you hear people say that dance is not a sport.

12. Sitting in your splits while watching television to practice your flexibility.

13. Feeling your muscles being sore 24/7 was the best feeling ever if though it felt like you were dying.

14. Even though you're no longer a dancer, you still know how to tear up the dance floor.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
