Last semester, I watched all 9 seasons of “The Office” on Netflix and instantly fell in love with the show and its characters. I had a super hard time picking a favorite character, and I laughed so hard at every episode. If you love “The Office” as much as I do, you’ll relate to these 14 things about loving the show.
1.You find references to the show in everyday life.
Whether it’s people pretending to jump off of things or someone making a face that looks it should be made into a camera, you find references to “The Office” everywhere. Personally, whenever someone mentions Beyoncé I think of the show. I find myself connecting the show to things I see in my life pretty often. I just can’t help it.
2.You find yourself frequently asking others if they’ve seen the show.
Just the other day I asked someone if they’ve ever seen “The Office” because something he did reminded me of an episode. I’m pleasantly surprised when people say that they have, and I immediately reminisce about my favorite episodes and characters and lines. I love finding other people who share an interest in “The Office” with me because it’s such a great show and it’s a great pop culture reference.
3.You want to find yourself a Jim Halpert.
If you’re a fan like me, you probably agree that Jim was one of the coolest and sweetest guys on the show, so you’d probably like to find yourself a Jim Halpert to be your partner or even just a friend. A true fan of “The Office” knows just how awesome Jim is and wants to find someone just like him, or wishes to be just like him.
4.You wish Michael Scott could be your boss.
I honestly love my boss, but I also think that it would be entertaining if Michael Scott were my boss. I know he wouldn’t really get anything done and would probably spend a lot of time making inappropriate jokes, but he would also be really funny. Michael Scott wouldn’t be a good boss in terms of actually working, but he would be good boss to hang out with. That’s why fans of the show would probably want him as their boss.
5.Jim and Pam are relationship goals.
Obviously Jim and Pam are the cutest. So if you’re a true fan of “The Office,” they’re probably the storybook relationship you were looking for. They went from friends to boyfriend and girlfriend to fiancés to spouses, and they were super cute the whole time. If you really love “The Office,” you know their relationship is what you want yours to be.
6.Dwight and Jim are secretly friendship goals.
Yes, they’ve had their ups and downs, but doesn’t every friendship? Sure, they started out as enemies, but they grew into best friends to be honest. Their constant pranks and competitions were entertaining, and I honestly believe that these things helped them to move toward being friends. If you truly love the show, you’ll agree that you want someone to care about you as much as Dwight and Jim ultimately grew to care about each other.
7.You have said, at least once, “I am Beyoncé always.”
I know I have. It’s just a typical phrase from the show, so how could you not say it? It’s a confidence booster, but it’s also pretty funny. Michael Scott and Beyoncé both rock, so why not be both at once with this phrase?
8.You giggle whenever someone says “superstitious.”
One of my favorite lines is when Michael says, “I’m not superstitious, but I am a little stitious.” When I first heard it, I had to rewind the episode and listen again. Then I had to pause it so I could laugh without missing anything that came after. If you really love “The Office,” you know why the word “superstitious” is funny, and you probably remember it every time someone says it.
9.You have at least 5 “The Office” quotes on hand for any situation.
If my friends would let me, I would quote “The Office” way too much. I have so many quotes logged in my brain, and sometimes I use them for comebacks or as responses to certain situations. A real “The Office”-lover will be the same way, and you might use your quotes more frequently than I do.
10.When someone says “bankruptcy,” you shout, “I declare bankruptcy!”
I remember really vividly the part when Michael walked out into the main part of the office and shouted, “I declare bankruptcy!” because he thought that was how you declare bankruptcy. Now, every time someone says the word “bankruptcy,” I think of that scene and usually quote Michael. A true lover of the show will do the same.
11.You have asked about Pretzel Day.
Everyone knows that Stanley is at his happiest on Pretzel Day, so if you’re like me, you’ve probably wanted a Pretzel Day of your own, which means you’ve probably asked about one. I think having a Pretzel Day at my job would be awesome, but having Stanley there would make it ten times better. If you love “The Office,” you probably agree with me.
12.You can name at least 3 of Michael’s characters.
Michael Scarn, Caleb Crawdad, and, my personal favorite, Prison Mike. Michael’s characters are a major part of the show, and if you’re a true fan, you know a lot of them. You probably even remember Prison Mike’s famous quote, “The worst part about prison was the Dementors!” and Michael Scarn’s appearance in Michael’s movie Threat Level Midnight. These characters are part of Michael, so they’re unforgettable.
13.When people talk about Toby, you always say, “Aw, Toby.”
I’ve always felt bad for Toby, and I never understood why everyone was so mean to him. So every time people talked about Toby in real life, I would always express how bad I felt for him like you would for a cute small child. If you really love the show, chances are that you do the same.
14.You would be willing to watch the whole show again.
I recently watched the whole show from beginning to end on Netflix, and, if I had the time, I would totally do it again. It’s a great show, and I had so many laughs while I watched all 9 seasons. “The Office” got me through a lot, making me smile when I needed it and making me laugh when I needed to feel better. If you’re like me, you would definitely watch all 9 seasons again, or at least the first 7 until Michael leaves.
“The Office” was an awesome comedy that left its mark on television, and I loved watching it on Netflix last semester. If you agree with me, recommend it to your friends who haven’t watched it. (It’ll also be a good excuse to watch it again!) I hope it makes them as happy as Stanley is on Pretzel Day.
