14 Signs You Grew up in Glenview, IL
  1. You used count down the days until the Dairy Bar would reopen because that was the true sign that summer was coming. Waving to trains as they passed and getting your ice cream dipped in the blue raspberry shelling were the good ole’ days .
  2. If you didn’t spend your Friday nights hanging out in front of The Glen movie theater in middle school, were you even cool? Since everything closes around 9:00 p.m., that’s when your wild night would come to an end.
  3. You went crazy over the prizes offered during the Glenview Public Library summer reading program. If you didn’t reach 20 books and have a medal ceremony by the end of the summer, then your life might as well have been over.
  4. The Glenbrook South and Glenbrook North rivalry might have been big, but nothing can top the Attea versus Springman rivalry!!!! I still can’t believe I befriended some Springman alumni when I went to high school.
  5. You’re used to shops and restaurants closing down all the time. Every time a shop or restaurant leaves The Glen we act like it’s the world’s worst break-up, that is until something new takes its spot 5 minutes later.
  6. As a middle school girl, you visited the junior section of Von Maur at least once a week and would make a mess trying everything on. I always felt bad for the ladies that had to clean up the dressing rooms when prom dress season came along, yikes.
  7. Boys, I’m not sure what your middle school selves did… climb the Dick’s Sporting Good’s wall a million times??? Harass the faithful and loyal workers of GameStop about when the newest Call of Duty game was coming out???
  8. The most athletic some of us might have been was when we were participating in AYSO soccer. Park district basketball and volleyball were good times too, but damn those AYSO jerseys were hella fine.
  9. Knowing that the most accurate way to describe yourself is by simply saying you’re from the North Shore. We were born this way (as Lady Gaga says), the North Shore lifestyle runs through our veins.
  10. The best places to have your birthday party included: Color Me Mine, Georgia Nut Company and Pump It Up. If you wanted a birthday party people would be talking about the next Monday, it had to be at one of those places.
  11. When they turned the water effects on at Little Bear Park over the summer and everything just felt right. The opening weekends for Roosevelt and Flick pools meant TANNING SZN.
  12. You went savage during the Glenview street fair every June. God bless free things. Best booth hands down is the 'create your own visor', because nothing beats a good visor.
  13. If you didn’t have to endure a yearly field trip to The Grove, count yourself as lucky. While it’s great to learn about Glenview’s history, I am not one for nature and the possibility of getting poison ivy.
  14. You uttered phrases like “There’s nothing to do in Glenview!”, “Glenview is so boring.” or “I can’t wait to get out of Glenview!” Anyone else regret saying those things now? ILY Glenview, sorry I was so mean to you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
