Delaware is the sixth smallest state when it comes to population and the second smallest geographically. But don't let size fool you- Delaware natives are more than happy to call this state their home. Whether you live here for life, grew up here, or moved here, you'll know these things to be true:
1. No one knows where Delaware is, so you tell them where you are in reference to Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C.
I've been asked if Delaware is in Pennsylvania or near Vermont, or my personal favorite an Island near Hawaii. It's not clear enough to just say you're from Delaware so you have to include that you're right next door to Maryland, or just south of Philly.
2. Living at the beach comes with beach tourism, but you wouldn't trade being this close to water for anything.
All Delawareans dread that time of year when all the out-of-staters come down and cause bumper to bumper traffic, but summer traffic can be overlooked when you have a coastline that looks this good.
3. That being said, you roll your eyes at every NJ or PA license plate you see.
Delaware roads are pretty small and easy to navigate but nothing screw up traffic flow like a few driver from NJ or PA. Maybe they don't understand our driving habits, Maybe they don't understand our traffic patterns. Maybe they just can't drive. The world may never know.
4. Shopping in other states is a no-go since sales tax is ridiculous.
That's right, you heard it. DE doesn't have any sales tax.It ay not seem like much but saving that little bit of change whenever you buy something, adds up.
5. You have many memories of summer nights at the boardwalk.
A Delaware summer isn't complete with out spending most of your nights at the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach. Between Thrashers fries and Funland, you have bound to had some fun.
6. Home to the East Coast's premiere music festival, Firefly.
If you're a music fan and don't have the funds to fly out to Coachella, don't worry. Firefly Music Festival is one of a kind with amazing artists. You can see Paul McCartney the same night as Snoop Dogg all while spending only a small amount of money compared to other music festivals.
7. Diners are the best for a Sunday morning breakfast.
With multiple small diners spread throughout DE, you've probably spent your weekend mornings in there with your family. My personal favorite is Westside Family Restaurant with the best pancakes in the state.
8. You bleed Blue and Gold.

9. Scrapple is so good it has it's own festival.
If you ever find yourself in Delaware for breakfast, order scrapple. There's this huge debate whether it should be served thick or thin, but there's no debate over the fact that it tastes great. Just don't ask what's in it.
10. Delaware may be small, but the State Fair isn't.
While the total population is only around 900,000 about 300,000 attend the local state fair every year. It's the perfect place to find any deep fried food imaginable.
11.Smashing pumpkins is like a tradition in your family.
Delawareans use all sorts of contraptions to launch pumpkins insane distances with the record currently standing at more than a mile. Each year, over 100 teams compete in what they called the “Punkin Chunkin” World Championship.
12. "Slower Lower" moves at it's own pace.
Delawareans like to refer to the lower half of Delaware as Slower Lower- where life is slow down low. Despite it's tiny size, there are some cultural differences within the state and the lower you go the more southern things become.
13. Wawa is a way of life.
Yes, Wawa is a gas station with a funny name. But it's so much more than that. The coffee is great, the deli makes the best sandwiches around, and the service always comes with a smile-plus, you're bound to see a cousin or two in the checkout line.
14. You have an insane amount of pride over this little state. After all, we are the first.
Delawareans make fun of our little state more than anyone else, but it's only okay when we do it. We love calling Delaware our home.
