It's that time of year again! In the wise words of James Franco:
Despite feeling well-adjusted to college, I always find myself looking forward to going home for a couple of days. So much of college is great, but without a break here and there, it can easily become overwhelming. Although the initial first-semester homesickness has managed to pass, traveling back to my hometown is just as a exciting as it was back in October. Besides the break from never-ending essays and reading assignments, here are a few things worth appreciating during your time at home.
1. Your own bed.
Because sometimes your lofted, twin-sized bed at school just doesn't cut it.
2. Home-cooked meals.
After weeks of cafeteria food, nothing beats a heaping plate of your favorite home-cooked meal.
3. Getting to eat at your favorite restaurants.
And as nice as your mom's cooking is, you can't pass up your favorite pizzeria or sushi restaurant while you're in town.
4. The ability to smother your pets with love.
Let's face it, there's not a soul on earth you've missed more.
5. A shower-shoe-less shower.
You can finally sing at the top of your lungs without fear of your foot slipping out of your flip-flop.
6. Reliable Wi-Fi.
It's been a long time coming.
7. Being a 10-second walk from food.
And you don't even have it walk outside for it! This is what dreams are made of, my friends.
8. Having access to a car.
Since most freshmen aren't allowed to have cars on our campus, getting to cruise on your home turf while you can is always a plus.
9. Infinite time to binge watch TV.
Now you can watch Netflix for hours on end, or at least without the added guilt.
10. Not having to wait for a washer or dryer.
Or having to worry that someone will hastily throw all of your stuff on top of the machines.
11. Real coffee.
As much as I appreciate my Keurig, there's nothing quite like a fresh cup of coffee from home.
12. A trustworthy hairdresser.
Because you can't trust just anyone with those locks.
13. The ability to look like a potato.
Who's around to impress? Yep, that's right, just your dog.
14. Time to spend with family and friends.
Let's face it, it's always nice to take a step back and relax with the people who have been there through it all.
Remember to take a moment and appreciate the many great aspects of home. I wish everyone a relaxing and joy-filled break!
