13 Reasons Being A Big Sister Is The Best.

Having younger sister not only keeps me alive, but it also makes my parents look crazy.

13 Reasons Being A Big Sister Is The Best.
Taryn Kehn

I am my mother's oldest of four children. Growing up, I never thought it was cool being the oldest, but it actually is. I never realized that my younger sister could give me so much to look up to; I always tell them that they are the air that I breathe. When I left for college, I realized how awesome being a big sister really is.

1. Even if they don't admit it, they look up to you.

I hated when my sisters would "borrow" my things without asking, or when they'd copy me with things like dance and my clothes. I now know that they did those things because I was their big sister, and being like me meant that they were big, too.

2. They are ready-made-friends for life.

It's true! Friends come and go, but family is always there. No matter how many arguments with friends I may have, I will always have my little sisters there to help me through it, even if they don't know it.

3. You already have your bridal party set.

I've had so many friends tell me that they don't know who they're going to choose to stand beside them on their special day. Since I have my sisters, I've basically already have my entire bridal party set in stone, even if it means it's just a party of four.

4. I have a bullet proof support system.

Even in my darkest hours when I felt like I have no one, I know that I have them. I know that even if I made a bad decision, it won't change the way they look at me.

5. When I'm bored, all I have to do is walk upstairs.

Even though they hate when I come distract them from their precious computer games, I do it anyways! Usually I just sit on their bed and ask them really dumb questions.

6. I can't be the only one to blame when our parents go crazy.

I'm a pain in the butt, but so are they. When our parents finally lose their minds, it won't be ALL my fault.

7. I can barrow their clothes.

Even though my sisters are 5 years younger than me, they have finally hit their growth spurt that makes them normal human sized, and not little baby sized, which also means that they wear the same size as me. I can steal their clothes to pay them back for when they stole mine when they were younger.

8. I can always count on them to put a smile on my face.

The first 7 of these were really directed at the 14 year old twins, and even though they can be really funny, no one can out do the 5 year old. She says things that really do not make any sense, but for some reason you can't stop laughing.

9. They're like a diary that can respond to you.

My sisters know a lot of my secrets, and it's almost like they are little diaries that can give you helpful advice when you really need it.

10. They're my role models.

It doesn't matter that they're younger than me. If I see that they're doing something amazing, it gives me the motivation that I need to do something amazing too.

11. I never have to go through tough family times alone.

When we lose a family member or something tragic happens, they are the only ones who can truly say "I know how you feel."

12. They're living, breathing Barbies.

The twins never let me pick out their outfits anymore like they used to. Luckily for me, I've got the tiny five-year-old who will let me do anything to her for at least 10 more years!

13. I always have something to fight for.

I've struggled with a lot, and I know that if I didn't have my little sisters, I wouldn't continue to push through the barriers.

They really are the air that I breathe. I know, not everyone is as lucky as I am, but my little sisters are some of the most amazing human beings to walk this earth. Fortunately for me, I get to walk right along side them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
