I am a chronic book hoarder. This is mostly because I am just a massive bookworm, but also because I have a dream to have an apartment completely lined with filled bookshelves one day. I am also one of those bad people who writes in and dog-ears their books, so I already commit a bookworm community sin right there. But regardless of how I decide to keep my place in my books, I am guilty of quite a few other weird things that only other book lovers would understand. Please tell me I'm not alone?
1. Leaving books all over the place.
You leave them on your nightstand, in the kitchen, on the chair. There are probably even one or two that have slipped under your bed.
2. Being really frugal until you step foot in a book store.
Whatever builds you intellectually is always worth spending more money on.
3. Smelling every book that you pick up.
Nothing, I repeat, nothing smells like a book. I'd buy 100 book-scented candles if I could. (Yankee Candle, I'm looking at you.)
4. Being upset that a fictional character is not real and can never date you.
You'll probably just end up alone because books have given you too-high expectations.
5. Talking about fictional characters as if they were real people.
You could debate about them for days.
6. Skipped to the end of the book "just to see" and instantly regretted it.
On the other hand, you also have a stack of unfinished books because you didn't want the ending to ruin the entire book for you.
7. Complaining about being tired when it was your decision to read until 4 a.m.
I JUST COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN, OK?!
8. Reading multiple books at the same time.
There are just too many stories to get through!
9. Having a specific system in arranging your bookshelf.
Whether it's color coded, alphabetical, or by author, you always have your books organized in a specific way.
10. Loving the first book in a series but then not remembering anything when the sequel comes out.
Then you go back and reread the final chapters of the first book.
11. Judging others and being personally offended if they don't read.
I mean, why would they deny themselves that pleasure?
12. Rereading the same book so many times that it starts to fall apart.
But you still love it and will continue to reread it.
13. Bringing a book everywhere you go even if you know you won't have time, just in case.
Parties, a family gathering, the gynecologist...you never know when you might need to crack open your book.
