I often feel like I am the only girl out there with self-confidence in the way I look. Yes, I do have times when I criticize myself, but most of the time I feel like a boss. Girls all around the world struggle with self-confidence, so I wanted to share 13 tips I have used to get to this point in my life.
Disclaimer: To achieve best results, one must try to own it. No one can teach you how to do that. That comes with practice.
1. Wash Your Face Then Look
Just wash your face, whether it has makeup on it or not, and look in the mirror. Next pull all your hair away from your face to just look at your face. Observe the beauty in your eyes and smile. Notice the cleanliness of your skin. Tell yourself, "I look so pretty."
2. Make A Spontaneous Fashion Statement
I'm not saying go "Ga Ga" and wear something out there, unless if you want to do so. I'm just saying do something different than you normally do. For me it's putting on a little makeup and wearing a nice outfit. Maybe it's the opposite for you. It could even be wearing that bulky statement necklace you're afraid to wear.
3. Start Doing Activities Alone
Whether it's going out to eat, seeing a movie, etc., it can be so much fun to enjoy something you don't do often alone. It gives you that "me time" that we all need here and there. The key to this one is doing your activity of choice in public (no, watching Netflix doesn't count).
4. Realize You Don't Need A S.O.
I gained my confidence when, at the age of 16, I stopped feeling the need for a boyfriend. Just stop yearning. You don't need a boyfriend/girlfriend, so there is no need to yearn for one. Yes, it might be nice, but you have to learn to be a BOSS! Own your singleness and thrive in it!
5. Find Something You Love
For me, in years past, it was bands, bands, and more bands. I was a total fangirl at one point, but I've always loved something each moment of my life. It can be God, a Broadway musical, a band, a movie, or anything! You just gotta enjoy something out there.
6. Do Something Else Spontaneous!
When I joined Odyssey to start writing, it was such a spontaneous moment in my life. Through having success and having a new hobby that brings me joy, I have felt like I can rule the world. If you try something new, you might just find a new passion that can bring you confidence as you get better.
7. Make A List Of What You've Accomplished In Life So Far
I'll be the first to admit, I might not have done this exactly, but I have in a way--filling out college and scholarship applications. They want to know what you've done, and it helps you understand that you are awesome at something!
8. Wash Your Face
I fail at this. As a college student, it's extremely easy to get lazy and not cleanse and moisturize each night before going to bed, but it's so worth getting rid and preventing spots everywhere. This is always a boost in self esteem and confidence.
9. Do Volunteer Work
Whether it's in your school, church, local adoption center, or any other part of your community, it will help you feel good about what you did.
10. Tell Yourself Today Is A Good Day
And do this before the day even starts! This will encourage positive thinking throughout the entire day, and we could all use a little of that in our lives.
11. Create Something!
Indulge yourself into something--drawing, baking, music, sculpting, writing, photography, etc.--and show it off to all your friends and family!
12. Don't Worry About What Others Think
There is one thing I have learned in college--no one cares. I know in high school they do, but that's their problem, not yours. They'll grow up (hopefully).
13. BE YOURSELF!
No one could ask anything more from you! Do your best at everything you do, and you will find success.
