From having been named as one of Time Magazine's Top 100 Most Influential People of 2015 to being criticized by many for her humor, Amy Schumer took the world of comedy by storm with her witty and liberated personality, which is framed by her subversive feminism. Amy Schumer discusses various social issues such as cultural stereotypes, racial discrimination, and violence. However, Schumer has become the target of criticism with claims that her humor and jokes are not funny, but rather crude and racist through her use of dehumanizing language. Despite this, she has had some moments that accurately depict life as a female college student, or even just a female in general. Not every female may have experienced these moments, but I'm sure we all know at least one person who has.
1. Staying in shape.
The problem of wanting to stay in shape but not wanting to do anything. Like, I need motivation to even find motivation to workout.
2. Getting ready.
It can take a long time for females to get ready in the morning, unless I woke up late and am rushing to make it to my 8 a.m. Some people just don't understand this, and those people are usually males. If you text me asking to hang out, please give me at least over an hour's notice.
3. Comfort > fashion.
Getting all "dolled up" and wearing nice clothing to class or to basically anywhere isn't always comfortable. You bet that as soon as I get home, I revert back to my pajamas -- sweat pants and a comfy shirt. And aside from wearing comfortable clothes, removing my makeup is always another highlight of my day.
4. Take another selfie.
Do you just want to document this glorious moment where your hair is cooperating and your makeup actually looks fine? Given that this only occurs once in a blue moon, it's so necessary to take a selfie, which you'll end up choosing maybe one out of 27. It's not always easy to take a selfie that you actually like. How's the angle? How's the lighting? Any double chins?
5. Some days are rougher than others.
Some days you might need more motivation to get you through the day. For some of us that may be sleeping in and skipping a class, and for others it might be some C2H6O (alcohol).
6. Never acknowledge the weight gain.
The "Freshman 15" is so real, and so is weight gain at college in general. You don't want to acknowledge any weight you gain at any point, but you make sure to proudly and mildly "boast" about any weight loss. But let's be realistic -- we all know we could eat a lot when we get cravings and might end up looking a little like this:
7. Birth control.
For those who take birth control, we know the struggle of obtaining birth control.
8. Teaching your parents how to use technology.
Trying to help your parents with technology can be the greatest test of patience. Watching them struggle with basic concepts can be the most stressful time ever. No matter how many times you explain it, show them, and "move too fast" for them to follow, they most likely won't get it.
9. "Anyone would be lucky to be with you!"
When people compliment you by saying so many great things about you, and then they state how someone would be so lucky to date you. But then there's you like, "stawp."
10. When a guy likes you.
But then once a guy says he actually likes you, do you actually believe it right away?
11. Some guys just don't get it about the pictures.
This one is pretty self-explanatory. But for the males, I have one word for you: Why?
12. You're in the mood? We're not.
And another one, related to males. Some guys try to "talk dirty" with females. But let it be known that while he could "be in the mood" or whatever, we're probably not.
13. Trying to pull off certain shirts.
When you see an absolutely adorable crop top, but you can't seem to be able to pull it off.
And lastly, I'll close with this quote from Amy Schumer. Despite the criticism of her humor, she remains fearless and continues to speak her mind even amidst the critics. She is "unapologetic,"
poignant and funny, and willing say things that may not be deemed acceptable by society, making her an idol for many.
“My comedy is unapologetic and fearless. Like, sometimes you’ll wind up having condomless sex with someone that you probably shouldn’t. I’m interested in sharing that part of myself unapologetically so that other people will hopefully feel better.”
