13 Thoughts Everyone At UW Had The Day The Sun Came Out

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

"Here Comes the Sun"

The Beatles

You've all noticed it by now. It blinded you in the morning, waking you up before your alarm had a chance to go off on you. Its powerful rays shot through your carelessly open curtains and startled you so much that you thought you were still dreaming.

Then you sat up, got adjusted, and you saw it.

The sun.

Here are 12 thoughts you and every other person at the University of Washington had the day the sun came out:

1. What the [enter choice of expletive here] is that?!

What do they call that, you know, the, uh, oh yeah, the sun! For a moment, the intense brightness hurts your eyes. Then you feel its yellow warmth, and the birds are chirping, and everything just seems all right with the world.

2. I'm going to get coffee...ICED.

"Yes, I will have a vanilla latte...an iced vanilla latte." Isn't it nice getting a cold drink and not suffering from hypothermia afterward?

3. Should I wear shorts or pants?

You haven't worn shorts since August. Man, this is so exciting.

4. *Sticks hand out window* PANTS...definitely pants.

It's still winter in Washington. Don't forget that.

5. Where are my sunglasses?

You know at some point you owned a pair or two. After checking every drawer and box in your dorm room, you admit defeat.

6. A LOT of people go to this school...

The walk from your art class to your microbiology seminar is the same every day. You swear you have never seen that many people on your journey through campus. People sprawled across the various grassy areas. You start to realize how big UW really is.

7. I must get all my work done so I can go outside, NOW.

You proceed to do everything you can as quickly as you can so you can go enjoy the sunshine without feeling too guilty.

8. I need 126 pictures of the Quad by noon

9. Is it weird I kind of miss the rain?

A moment of nostalgia, because you know as a true Washingtonian, we can never be happy with the weather...whether it be rain, shine or overcast.

10. Yes, that is weird, I take it back.

Please don't rain, quick knock on wood.

11. UW is really pretty, like REALLY pretty.

It's funny how everything seems brighter and more alive when the sun comes out.

12. What classes can I afford to skip?

Yes, finals are just around the corner, but it is just so freaking nice outside. So you get on the phone immediately and call all your friends. You pitch the idea to them: go to lunch, walk around, maybe even take a bus downtown! You'll make a day of it; it will be lovely.

13. Summer cannot come soon enough.

Now that you've had a taste of the sun, there is no going back. Bring on the long lazy days full of iced tea, bonfires and clear-for-miles skies.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
