13 Things That Happen When Your Sister Is Your Best Friend

“The best thing about having a sister was that I always had a friend” – Cali Rae Turner

When the words "sister" and "best friend" are synonymous, you know you have been blessed with one of life’s greatest gifts. Your sister was there for you before you even knew how much you needed her. Your lives have been intricately woven together for longer than you can remember. This relationship is special and should never be taken for granted. Your sister is the best friend you were lucky enough to grow up with. She was your most constant companion throughout your childhood. Although you fought over toys when you were little and time in the bathroom during high school, you can’t think of anyone you would have rather grown up with. No friendship will ever come close to the bond you have with your sister. Through thick and thin, she will always be there for you.

1. You are her biggest fan and supporter.

You are her number-one fan who supports everything she does with great enthusiasm. You attended almost every sports game, concert, or theater production that she was ever in.

2. You have your own code words and phrases.

Even a single glance across the room can communicate exactly what you’re trying to tell each other.

3. You have a second closet because you share clothes and accessories.

Your mom made you match for so many years that you were bound to like some of the same clothing styles. You are very protective of your clothing, but you are always ready to help dress your sister up for a special occasion.

4. You were given a built-in maid-of-honor.

You promised this role to each other when you were in elementary school, and made sure all of your friends knew about it. At least one decision in your life will be really easy to make.

5. You bond over the weirdness of your family.

Because you were blessed with the same parents, you understand the bizarre complexities like the back of your hand. No one else understands the strange family traditions and quirks than she does. But at the end of the day, no one else understands how irreplaceable your family is.

6. You have more shared memories together than any other friends.

You are always saying, “Remember the time when…” to one another. Funny stories of making home movies or the games you played when you were kids can always make you laugh. You cherish fond memories of attending Taylor Swift concerts together and knowing all the words to her songs.

7. You keep each other’s secrets.

She knows things about you that no one else does, and vice versa. You spent countless nights staying up late having deep conversations. “Don’t tell mom and dad” was something that never had to be verbalized, because you could always trust each other’s confidentiality. She knows all of your embarrassing habits and quirks, but you can trust her to keep those to herself and off of social media.

8. You know you can always get an honest answer from her.

She will always give you a straight answer. Should you post that photo on Instagram? Does your outfit look cute? Since she can't get rid of you, she feels comfortable telling you the un-sugarcoated truth.

9. You have similar morals and values.

Growing up in the same family is extremely formative, and no one will understand your way of thinking better than your sister. You inspire each other to be better people, and you want the best for each other.

10. You require her approval on everything.

You consult each other on every big decision you make. If she doesn’t approve of the guy you’re dating, he’s out. If she doesn’t like your outfit, you aren’t likely to wear it again. If she disapproves of something, she must have a good reason for it. She can often view things in your life more objectively since you go through things at different times.

11. You learn from each other.

Despite having extremely different personalities, you and your sister can always learn from each other. Sometimes her life choices are the complete opposite of your own, but these differences are always something you can learn from. You can learn from both each other’s successes and failures.

12. You are protective of her.

If anyone hurts your sister, they will definitely have to deal with your wrath. You will always stand up for her, because you are personally offended on her behalf.

13. You love her unconditionally.

No one can drive you crazier than your sister, but no other relationship could take her place. You’ve traveled through life together from the very beginning. You loved her before she was even born, and you’ve loved her ever since. You are bound by the powerful bond that family has, and you wouldn’t have it any other way. Your sister will always be your best friend whom you cherish with your whole heart.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
