13 Things I Learned From "Gilmore Girls"

" Gilmore Girls" is one of my favorite TV shows. It is classy, genuine, and keeps you interested. I learned a lot from Stars Hollow, Lorelai, Rory, and Luke. The bond that Lorelai and Rory share is so special and I hope to one day share a similar bond if I have a daughter. Here are 13 things I learned from "Gilmore Girls."

1. School is important.

Rory is an excellent student. She is always studying and is super smart. Her hard work proves to pay off because she gets into Ivy League schools and graduates from Yale University.

2. It's OK to be sad and cry over a breakup.

Whenever Lorelai or Rory went through a breakup, they ate tons of ice cream and junk food, watched endless amounts of TV, and cried. When Dean breaks up with Rory, she tries to keep herself busy and not give in to self-pity. Lorelai convinces her to slow down and have a mourning period, and it proves to be good for her in recovering from the breakup.

3. Family is worth it.

Lorelai did not always have a good relationship with her parents. Throughout the show, she continually tries to make an effort and improve their relationship, even though they have some rough spots. Their relationship greatly improves and they have some great times and memories as a result.

4. Coffee. Always, coffee.

Lorelai is the coffee queen. She has an obsession with the stuff and shows that coffee is always the right way to go.

5. Food. If you don't love food, what are you?

Everything from important life events to weekend movie marathons involve food. It could be Sookie-quality food, Friday night Gilmore dinner food, Luke's Diner food, or Al's Pancakes food. It's all good.

6. Be a smart, strong, independent, funny woman with a hint of sarcasm.

Lorelai is one of my role models. She is all of these and so much more; and she's nothing short of great.

7. Good friends are an important part of life.

Sookie and Lorelai, Luke and Lorelai, Rory and Lane, Rory and Lorelai; all of these friendships make the show. Good friends can make all the difference in your life.

8. Stand up for yourself.

Lorelai knew her worth and she made sure Rory did too. They never let anyone treat them like crap, and they knew what they deserved.

9. Be involved in your town community.

Town hall meetings were hilarious in Stars Hollow. I wish my town had meetings like that. Lorelai and Rory were very involved in their community, and they made good friends and had good times because of it.

10. Take chances, and if needed, make a pros and cons list.

Luke and Lorelai took a chance with their relationship, Lorelai and Christopher took a chance with their relationship, Rory took a chance with Logan, and Rory took a chance with her career choice. Whether the chance taken works out or not, you learn from it and that's what's important.

11. Sometimes you have to be bold.

Lorelai made a bold move when she proposed to Luke, but it turned out to teach her valuable things and grow her as a person. Sometimes bold decisions are the best decisions.

12. Don't ever give up on something you love.

Rory didn't give up on school, love, or family. Lorelai didn't give up on Luke, The Dragonfly, Rory, parents, or herself. Lane didn't give up on the band. Sometimes things don't work out, but sometimes they do; and that's reason enough to give it your all.

13. Moms are the best.

Lorelai and Rory are best friends. They have a bond with each other that could never be replaced. A daughter's relationship with her mom is so special, and moms will never know how much they truly mean to their daughters.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
