Freshman year is full of ups and downs. Now that's it coming to an end, it's important to look back and learn from your mistakes and successes. Here are 13 things I learned my freshman year that I hope all freshman can relate to.
1. Grades come first.
It's more important to write a paper that's due the next day than to go hang out with friends. If you fail your classes, you'll have even less time to do fun things.
2. 8am's are as hard as everyone says.
If you stay up until 2am and then have to sit through a 50 minute class while you're half asleep.. you're gonna have a bad time.
3. Being homesick is real.
You might try to fight it, but missing your bed, family, friends and pets is inevitable. Some days you'll need to take a break from everything and give your parents a call.
4. Each new person you meet doesn't become your friend.
You're gonna meet a lot of new people in the matter of a few days; don't assume that everyone you meet will be your new best friend.
5. Homework actually counts.
In High School you might've been able to miss a few assignments, but that doesn't fly in college. If you miss one assignment, your grade could drop severely.
6. People change.
You're changing too, so don't worry if friendships don't last. You'll meet people who actually want to be there for you.
7. You don't have to show off to anyone.
It's okay to wear sweats to class and not wear any make up. There's no judgement because we're all in the same boat.
8. It's okay to not know what major you want to pursue.
You can even change your major a few times. Take classes that interest you so that you can find out what you like and look into possible careers that involve things you enjoy.
9. It's difficult to share a small room with anyone.
The best thing to do is have communication in order to avoid any altercations. Try being friends with your roommate because then it'll making living together fun.
10. I lost myself.
It's difficult holding on to who you are when you have so many new responsibilities.
11. I found myself.
Learning how to handle all the new responsibilities shows you the kind of person you are.
12. You learn more than what professors were teaching.
While I did learn a lot in class, I learned a lot more just by being away from my family and experiencing new things on my own.
13. I'm a stronger person.
After all is said and done, I'm glad I learned during my freshman year. Everything is so new and everyone is trying to figure out what to do just like you.
And now here's a cute gif of a baby bunny to make you smile :)
