13 Taylor Swift Lyrics That Get Me Through Life
Katherine Lucas

I just want to give a shout out to Taylor Swift for getting me through life (thanks girl, you rock).

1. “But in your life you'll do things greater than dating the boy on the football team.”

If only I could go back and talk to my high school self…he isn’t the boy you’re going to be with for the rest of your life so stop thinking that. He might be great right now, but I can promise you that he will change and your heart will break. Trust me, all of your friends knew it wouldn’t happen, but you were just too blinded by love to even see it. He’s too full of himself to even think about you, so stop. Now.

2. “You should've known that word, with what you did with her, get back to me.”

We all have that one guy that is just not fit for boyfriend material. Whether it be an ex-boyfriend or whatever, cheating isn’t okay and don’t ever settle for someone who treats you that way. But if it does happen just take a listen to Taylor and I promise you will feel better. Never settle for less than you deserve, it may destroy you in the end.

3. “Cause baby I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me.”

People are hateful and people will be mean to you. Don’t tolerate it. Be the better person (as hard as it may be sometimes) and walk away. Don’t throw mean words back because it could come back to haunt you (I don’t care if they were being mean first) just walk away.

4. “Don’t you worry your pretty little mind, people throw rocks at things that shine.”

Once again, people are cruel and the world is an evil place. You are smart, beautiful, and have a lot going for you and sometimes that upsets people. Just remember, they always want to see you doing well just not better than them.

5. “State the obvious, I didn't get my perfect fantasy I realize you love yourself more than you could ever love me.”

Once again, there’s always going to be that one guy that isn’t quite boyfriend material. It all seems great one night and then the next morning your whole world feels broken. He might be one of those guys that breaks up with you the day before your birthday while you’re on your way to school (yes, that’d be me) and guess what, it’s going to suck but you will be alright. Pick yourself up, go buy a new dress, a new pair of shoes, etc. but don’t feel sorry for yourself. One day there will be one guy that won’t ever even think about treating you like that. He will love you for who you are and would never dream of hurting you, and that’s the one you want to give your heart to.

6. “You call me up again just to break me like a promise.”

Remember that ex-boyfriend of yours that completely destroyed your whole life (or so it seemed)? He will come crawling back and act like he now wants something to do with you, guess what, he doesn’t. His intentions with you are still not where they need to be, he just doesn’t want to lose. Seeing you happy without him might actually hurt him inside (believe it or not). But don’t give in. You are stronger than you think you are and you know what you deserve and it isn’t him. It’s okay to cry and it’s okay to be sad but not every single day. You will be okay you just have to believe in yourself.

7. “I didn’t know to be in love you had to fight to have the upper hand."

Guess what? You don’t. You should never have to fight for someone’s attention. There is always enough time for the one you care about. They aren’t ‘too busy’ they’re just inconsiderate and they don’t deserve to love someone like you.

8. “Heartbreak is the national anthem, we sing it proudly.”

You will get your heart broken and it will hurt something terrible. You are allowed to be upset and you are allowed to cry, but make sure you cry enough to never cry about it again. And then guess what? You’re allowed to be happy. You’re allowed to have fun and enjoy life. Don’t be so caught up in people that don’t care about you. Someone special will walk into your life and make you finally understand why it never worked with the one you swore you were going to marry in high school.

9. "We are never ever ever getting back together.”

Remember that guy that broke your heart we just talked about? Yeah, don’t get back together with him. His heart isn’t truly in it and you don’t deserve to feel like you are worthless, because you aren’t. When he calls you at 2 AM telling you that he messed up and is missing you more than ever don’t you dare give in. You’re going to want to because he sounds like he is telling the truth and is acting like he cares. You need to cut it off right there because he is never going to change. He will continue pushing you to your breaking point. There will be countless nights where you just lie in bed wondering where he is, who he’s with, or what he’s doing and you DON’T deserve to feel that way. Ever. I know it’s hard but walk away and take every single piece of your broken heart with you.

10. “I know you were on my side even when I was wrong and I love you for giving me your eyes, staying back and watching me shine.”

This one is for those of you who are lucky enough to have your mom as your best friend. You will have several friends throughout your life but none of them will be as good of a friend as your mom. She will always be there to catch you when you fall whether you want to believe that or not. If you’re anything like me then your mom is the greatest person in your life. You could be so wrong about everything and she will give you all of her love and stick by your side. That relationship you don’t feel a spark for anymore? End it. Your mom will be right there with arms open wide and will completely be on your side even if she doesn’t believe in the decision you made. She will always be on your side, always.

11. “I'd like to be my old self again, but I'm still trying to find it.”

When you have your heart shattered into a million little pieces it’s hard to be the innocent little girl you were before that. You used to believe in magic, see the good in everyone, and believe in fairytales. It’s honestly so difficult to get that back. That first heartbreak seriously feels life ruining, but it isn’t. You will be fine. You may never be that girl again but I promise that you will be okay. That version of yourself was so much happier and sweeter and you would do anything to be like that again, but getting that back is nearly impossible. You begin to question anyone’s intentions with you and you question your purpose and worth. I don’t know how many times I can say this but everything will be okay. But good luck being the same person you were before you had your heart broken.

12. “I'm gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well.”

You may not believe it right now but you will fall in love again. One day someone is going to treat you like a princess and your fairytale will come true. It may be someone you just met or it may be someone you met your sophomore year in high school Spanish class, you never know. But whoever it is, make sure to love them will all of your heart. Don’t hold your past relationship issues against this person. They will love you with everything they have and you will never find a love like that again. This is the person you need to marry. The one who takes you out for ice cream at midnight just to find that every single place in town is closed for the night, the one who stick a Chick-Fil-A cookie in your locker and puts a smiley face on the bag, or the one who kisses you on the night of high school graduation and makes your whole entire world flip upside down (for the better of course). FALL IN LOVE WITH THAT PERSON. They are out there and they will make you the happiest person in the world. Don’t be afraid darling.

13. “I've been spending the last eight months Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end but on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again.”

This will be the person I mentioned above. Let them into your life. Let them into your heart. Love them unconditionally and everything will be okay.

What I'm trying to say is, Taylor Swift sings about and will continue to sing about your life (so it seems). Her songs have honestly gotten me to where I am today and I'm so thankful for that. If you are ever doubting yourself or are just going through a hard time, take a listen to one or a few of her songs and I promise that you will eventually feel better. All you have to do is have hope for yourself and you will be okay.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
