Being back home for the summer, I have a lot more free time to enjoy the local spots around me. I love to drive my car around, windows down, blasting music with my friends and driving wherever. Here are some of my favorite spots in the South Shore and beyond were you can certainly catch me at this Summer! And if you have not been to some of these places, I recommend you check them out.

1. Dairy Twist, Pembroke

I do not care what anyone says, this is by far the best ice cream place around. JC's, Peaceful Meadows, Dairy Queen... none of those compare. Dairy Twist has excellent prices, many options and the best flavor soft serve I have ever tasted- Java Berry. Only available every 3 weeks, and the wait is excruciating.

2. Scituate Light House

A historical spot, coincidentally owned by a history teacher. A beautiful lighthouse, surrounded by a gorgeous beach and jetty. Watch the sunset and enjoy the company around you, it truly is a great spot to just sit back and relax.

3. Derby Street Shoppes, Hingham

A perfect location to shop, be with friends, and not be cooped up indoors. An outdoor mall with plenty to do and still enjoy the Summer temps.

4. Chipotle, Hingham

More specifically, at Derby Shoppes is a place all can agree is one of their favorites. Oh Chipotle, the fools who think Moe's is better than you are not worthy. A burrito, chips with guac, and do not forget to ask for a water cup.

5. Any Marshfield Beach

Take your pick... I am bias and love a spot by Brant Rock, just because I found a secret spot were you do not have to pay for that annoying beach parking. If you are from the area it is right by the delicious Venus II, beautiful beach and no pesky parking fee.

6. Niko's Restaurant, Weymouth

I prefer going for Niko's breakfast with my friends, I am a sucker for breakfast places in the summer, because you can wake up early for some great food instead of having to get up for school. The omelettes are amazing, certainly a must try.

7. Sashimi Sushi Asian Bistro, Marshfield

I have yet to try actual fish sushi, but I am a huge fan of the sweet potato, cucumber and avocado sushi options. I love sushi, so maybe one day I will warm up to trying more options, but either way it is great.

8. Kristin's, Braintree

Not a surprise, another breakfast place added to my list. This place is UNBELIEVABLE... pancakes are truly life changing. There are gourmet options- cookie dough, German chocolate, and much more. A must try if you have yet to go, winners of best south shore breakfast place for years... and they deserve it.

9. South Shore Plaza, Braintree

Now, not all Summer days are bright, shiny and warm. If it is a bad day, and you want to go out, but not actually be outside I would recommend The Plaza. A gigantic indoor mall with any place you can imagine. There is food, shopping and entertainment all around- Dave and Buster's is one of my personal favorites.

10. Cupcake Mojo, Weymouth

If you know me, you know that I have quite the sweet tooth, especially when it comes to cupcakes. The owners of Cupcake Mojo were runner ups in the TLC series Cupcake Wars, and it still blows my mind they did not take the crown. They have many, many flavors, and the nicest people running shop. If you give notice they will make whatever cupcake flavor you want, even if it is not a flavor for the day. Great service and really great cupcakes.

11. Xfinity Center/ Gillette Stadium, Mansfield/Foxboro

Is it Summer without visiting one of these locations at least once? Whether it is a country concert, Beyonce or anything else in between- Summer is the season of concerts. I already have my calendars marked for Luke Bryan and Kenny Chesney for this Summer, and I could not be more excited.

12. Faneuil Hall, Boston

Take the T and ship it out to Boston, no words can describe this beautiful city. So much to do, whether to stay around the Quincy Market, or tred over to the North End. I love Dick's Last Resort, it is a great place to eat with your friends and get a laugh with a great meal. After, I would either get a cannoli and cookies at Mike's Pastry or the new Ghiradelli Ice Cream Shop in Faneuil Hall itself.

13. Fenway Park, Boston

This Summer especially, not only is it Big Papi's final season sadly, but the Sox are doing great this year. Catch a game, enjoy a Fenway Frank and enjoy some great memories.

So no matter where you go or who you are with, I hope you have a great Summer like I have been already! If you have not been to any of these spots I highly recommend, and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts :)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
