Being the youngest sucks. Always.

1. Finding places to go on the weekends is a pain.

Because all your friends want to go to the bars, but you know you’re not getting past the bouncer no matter how hard you try.

2. You’ve looked up ways to remove sharpie from skin more than once.

And you’ve tried almost everything in the book, but very few things actually work (Pro Tip: I’ve found that putting lotion on before getting marked helps to keep it from sinking in too deep. Then just use a makeup wipe or some rubbing alcohol).

3. Going out to dinner with your friends sucks.

.

You have to sit there and watch as they all order mojitos and jack in cokes, while you sit there with your non-alcoholic Piña colada trying to look like you’re a real adult.

4. Even going out with your family sucks.

Watching your older siblings and parents get drinks is almost like torture. It feels like no one understands your struggle.

5. All your friends that are 21 go out to the bars together, and you’re left behind.

They say they miss you, and that karaoke won’t be the same without you, but you know they’re probably having too much fun to notice you’re not even there.

6. You know by the time you turn 21, all your friends are going to be burnt out.

There’s a very small window of opportunity that drinking when you’re finally of age is actually fun, and half of your friends have already passed that stage.

7. You get a look of pity every single time you go out and one of the bouncers sees your ID.

You swear that if you hear, “Aw, you’re almost there!” one more time you’re going to scream.

8. You can’t help but hate your friends who are 21 who rarely drink, or worse yet, don’t drink at all.

Besides those who actually have good reason not to drink, you feel intense anger at those who turn down a drink. Do they know how badly they’re torturing you? It’s like a writer watching a book burning.

9. Your friends all tell you that drinking legally isn’t all that great....

...as they sip on their giant margarita at the bar, and you give them the biggest glare you can.

10. You’re too afraid to even try and sneak drinks because you’re too afraid one of the bouncers might catch you and kick you all out.

All because you wanted one little sip of beer. Just one.

11. Anywhere not in the USA is your Heaven.

Canada is a beautiful and wonderful place that almost every 18-year-old goes to on their birthday.

12. It feels like time could not be passing any slower for your birthday to come around.

You’ve been counting down the days for years, which, in hindsight, really doesn’t help with anything.

13. You love to jam out to songs about drinking, but you actually have no idea what it’s like to wake up with a new tattoo, or a DJ passed out in the yard.

Maybe one day. One, glorious, beautiful day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
