I love Colgate. I love the academics, the campus, and most of all, the people. It is a great place to be, and I am always proud to be a Raider. But I think we can all agree that there are some struggles that only we, Colgate students, can really understand.
1. The Hill
No explanation needed.
2. Everyone dressing too well
Don't get me wrong, it is definitely nice to see people so nicely dressed, and if that works for you, then by all means go for it. But we don't need to act as though Vineyard Vines is the official school sponsored uniform.
3. Overeating slices
We've all had those nights. You go downtown, end up at Slices, and then somehow have enough slices and ranch to feed an army.
4. Frank
It has its moments of being a bit above average, but for the most part, it is just another subpar college dining hall.
5. The jokes
When I tell people from home that I go to Colgate, the first response is always "Wait, isn't that a toothpaste?" Yes. Yes, it is. And yes, that joke gets sick after about the sixth time I've heard it.
6. Winter
It's always dark. It's always cold. It's always icy. But Colgate still looks beautiful covered in snow.
7. Being in the middle of nowhere
Sometimes being in the middle of nowhere is nice, but as far as traveling goes, it's awful. There is no easy way to get in or out of Hamilton, and that makes getting people to visit you even harder.
8. The Raider
I am full of Raider pride, but I think we can all agree that the actual Colgate Raider is a bit creepy. Those red eyes staring at you are pretty overwhelming.
9. Small School
Colgate being a small school makes it a great community, but it also means that you will run into everyone. All the time. Whether you want to or not.
10. Academics
Colgate is an elite school, so it shouldn't be surprising that the academics are pretty rigorous and can be a struggle at times.
11. Colgate's own beauty
It might be the fact that I have the attention span of a 5-year-old, but I often find myself getting distracted by the beauty of Colgate, whether I'm just walking around or sitting in Case, pretending to get work done.
