I go to Messiah College and there are an unreal amount of people that are from no more than an hour away from here. So to say that I, the girl from Central New York, have noticed a few differences in culture, is an understatement. The hardcore country where people hunt and wear camo in everyday life is a new thing for me, and the people I surround myself with don't let me forget that I'm the girl from New York. Surprisingly enough though, I pushed a car out of the snow all by myself yesterday, in converse. So I guess I am starting to blend in after all.
1. Never in your life have you had the first day of hunting season off of school.
2. You don’t own a single item of clothing with camo on it.
3. And if you do, you don’t wear it in just your everyday setting.
4. You don’t understand why the word “all” has to go in every sentence. “Where all are you going?” “What all are you doing?”
5. You’re confused why everyone and their sister wants a truck.
6. There are about 427 little towns that are all part of 932 bigger towns, but you still have never heard of a single one of them.
7. You’ve found out that malls with more than about 15 stores don’t exist unless you like to drive.
8. You've heard talk of people renting their land to the natural gas industry.
9. Apparently, unless you're from the area, you say Reese’s wrong.. no matter how you say it, it’s wrong.
10. Little did you know, deer antlers on a wall are not tacky.
11. You are considered sheltered if you've never been to a Sheetz for more than gas.
12. People around here are unaware of their strange accents and mispronunciation of words.
13. You really know you're not from around here when you drive. People here actually drive the speed limit. The speed limit of 25mph.
