It's a difficult show to watch.
If you're someone who suffers from depression and has suicidal thoughts/had suicidal thoughts this show is one that you have to take step by step. Binge watching it can put you back at a place you don't want to be. As you read this more you will see what I mean.
Just listen to those trigger warning labels they put at the beginning of each episode because some episodes are harder to deal with than others. People tend to make fun of the word "trigger." They joke around with people saying "trigger" as just another word, but there's a reason they put them up. Don't take it lightly.
Mainly because you don't know what's going to happen next. I mean that's what makes shows exciting, right? Being able to be surprised when something out of the blue happens.
I love the show "13 Reasons Why" for a lot of reasons, which I won't get into now.
The show shines a light on things most shows or movies don't show. In other movies or shows, they try to glorify suicide. They show a girl swallowing a bottle of pills, and lying on the ground dead.
They usually don't show how gory it can actually be. In the show, Hannah slit her wrists and bled out in a bathtub for her parents to find her. That was hands down the hardest scene of any show for me to watch.
So many thoughts going through my head. She could've done it in another way like a car accident where it looks like just an accident. That would've been too easy for Hannah Baker since she liked to be very dramatic with it, hence the tapes. Her parents are forever scarred by the images of Hannah lifeless in a bloody bathtub.
I was only able to watch this show during the daytime. I had to wait a day or two in between every few episodes because showing her getting raped and all of the other things shown, it's hard to watch.
As someone who has always suffered from suicidal thoughts, this show is heartbreaking thinking that that could have been you.
I had to pace myself with the first season. I don't know how people finished it within two days. After watching the last episode, I was upset and very emotional all day. I went into a deep depression where I didn't want to talk to anyone, and I started having those thoughts and "what if's."
It's a good show and they talk about serious issues that many don't talk about, but it's not a binge-watching show.
